Mr. Gus Barrett, of Athens, has re
turned home ,after spending two
weeks with his sisters, Mrs. Coyle
and Miss Barrett. Hiscondition has
greatly improved.
Mrs. Campbell Wallace, Sr., Mrs.
Tom Wallace and Mrs, Henry Wyatt,
Jr., attended the meetings in Carters
ville last week and were guests of
Mrs. Sam P. Jones.

promenade on Friday evening. Tioe
front veranda and lawn were lighted
with many Jap lanterns and Miss
Evelyp Cheney served punch. Ice
cream and cake were also served and
a delightful evening was spent.’

N. C., who is visiting-Mrs. Doe Wil
liams, was the guest of honor at a
picnic at Lithia' Springs given by
Misses Annie and Addie McElreath.
Miss Bessie Wofford, of Marietta,
and Mr. Roy Appleton, of Rome, were
among the -guests. Miss Mary and
Messrs. Howard and Frank DMcEl
reath assisted in entertaining.
It is a source of great satisfac
tion to the admirers of Senator Hoke
Smith in Georgia that President Wil
son and the administration are plan
ning to back up unflinchingly the
contentions first insisted on by Sen
ator Smith with regard to the inter
ference by Great Britian with the
commerce of the United States and

Miss Mamie Bishop, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Bishop, and Mr,
Rufus H. McCutchen were married
last Sunday morning at the home of
Judge J. H. Nix, who officiated. *
JUDGE JOHN HEARD'S
GREAT DAY.
Judge John SB, Heard celebrated
the twentieth annual reunion of the
Heard family and his eightieth birth
day on Saturday.
He has been married twice and is
the father of twenty-three children,
fifteen of them living. They, with
their children, about twenty-five in
number, were present as were seven
of the fourth generation.
Besides the members of the Heard
family other guests of the occasion
were the members of the board of
county commissioners, a number of
county officials and members of the
county police force.
A big barbecue was served during
the day on the spot where once stood
the little house in which Judge Heard
was born eighty years ago. He has
lived at the same place al' his life,
and has the distinction of having
been a citizen of three counties al
though he never moved his Tesi
dence.
The Heard home, about six miles
from Buckhead, was first in Henry,
then DeKalb and then Fulton coun
ty.
Judge Heard’s nephews, Messrs,
A. A. and W. A. Bishop, with their
wives attended the reunion. Mr,
and Mrs. George Hicks and Mrs, S.
Groover were also among the guests,
