MABLETON’S CRACK TEAM e
BEEN PLAYING SOME BALL.
The strong Mableton nine accept
ed a challenge from the Smyrna team
last week. The game was scheduled
for Tuesday. There was a good
crowd out to witness the battle, from
Mableton and Smyrna, too. The
pitching of Moss, for the home ciub
was good, giving up only five hits.
With the exception of a few bad
deals from Mr. Umps. and the fail
ing to hit in the pinches, the game
would have been copped by our
team.
The game resulted in a score of
3 and 2 in favor of Smyrna.
We had the pleasure of defeating
Smyrna Friday, on our own ground,
with the score 8 to 2. Lester and
Daniell were the umpires for the fray
giving considerably fair decisions.
We believe in fairness and won’t
accept anything except that.
If the opposing team thinks that
our umpires are partial let them
bring their own along .
A large enthusiastic crowd of fans
witnessed the game on Saturday
afternoon. The opposing team was
the Gate City nine from Atlanta,
The pitchers were well matchsd,
while the consistency of the players
kept the runs from being scored.
Mableton had the lead over the Gate
City players in many ways. Our
strong nine had three men on third
while most of their players died at
first. The home team slammed out
three 2 baggers with 6 other safe
nits, while the “Gater” only receiv-.
ed two scratch hits. The pitching of
Moss for Mableton was exceptionally -
goond and such pitching is seldom
seen on any groumnds, The game
went full nine innings without either
side scoring. The Gate City boys
got nervous and would not finish the
game. The umpire was Melton and
was as fair as we could expect. All
we need is a little more consistent
playing and a few more hits in the
pinches.
Let all of the fans be out to wit
ness the coming games.
