Six Counties Get Tax Rights
By New W. & A. Lease Law
Messrs. Morris, of Cobb, and Cole,
0f Bartow, Succeed In Getting Pro
vision Placed In Bill Passed by
Legislature,
All six of the North Georgia coun
ties traversed by the Western and
Atlanta railroad are under oblig:-
tions to representative E. D. Cole,
of Bartow, and representative Fred
Morris, of Cobb for their untiring ang
successful efforts toward having in
corporated in the W. & A. releasing
bill a clause which empowers the
releasing commission to make pro
vigion for the lessee of the state roaq
to pay the annual county tax .5
each county through which the road
runs, according to the tax rate nf
saig county for each year on the
value of the property of the road in
such county. |
The six counties traversed by the
Western and Atlantic are Fulton,
Cobb, Bartow, Gordon, Whitfield
and Catoosa. While the other mem
bers of the legislature representing
these counties lent their support to
the proposition, the chief credit for
its success must go to Messrs. Colo
and Morris, both of whom- made
their races for the legislature mainly
on this question.
Mr. Cole was a member of the
commission which made an investi
gation of the W. & A. properties
and reported to the General Assera
bly of 1914, and at his suggestion
that a commission recommended that
the new lease provide for the pay

THE WESLEY BARACA'S
CHRISTMAS ENTERTAINMENT
On the night of Friday, Dec. 10th,
the Wesley Baraca Class of the
Methodist Church will give their an
nual entertainment for the purpose
of raising funds for Christmas chari
ty work.
Committees from the class are al
ready working to give the public a
special program, and a pleasant ‘ev
ening’s enjoyment.
The committee of ladies includes:
Mrs. W. A. DuPre, Mrs. Hodges, Mrs.
Tom Hamby, Miss Blondine Cooper
and Miss MecMichael.
The managing committe from the
Baraca Class consists of Geo. Grif
fin, Len Baldwin, Tom Hamby, John
Cogburn, Charlie Northcutt, Austin
McCleskey and W. C. Dumas.
The main feature cf the program
will be a “Wedding of Lilliputs.” 7t
‘must be distinctly understood that
this is going to be an up-to-the
minute, Ladies Home Journal, ac
cording-to-specifications, ultrafash
ionable wedding.
In it, will be about seventy-five
children ranging from three to five
years of age. The services of the
minister have already been secured,
and the bride notifies us that her
trousseau is fast nearing comple
‘tion. Hundreds of invitations have
been issued—one for you. Other
wedding plans will be announced la
ter.
This part of the program is being
prranged by Miss Whitfield of
Smyrna, whose services the Baracas
were fortunate in securing.
In addition to the above, there
will be several concert features, and

MRS.THOMAS AYERS PASSED
AWAY SUNDAY MORNING.
Mrs. Thomas Ayers died Sunday
morning at half-past 5 o'clock after
a long illness. She leaves her hus
- band and one sister Mrs. Martha
‘ Barfield.
i The funeral service was conducted
in the Olinville Church Monday
morning by Rev. W. H. Cooper, and
the interment was in the city ceme
tery. She had been in declining
health for several years.

one or two vaudeville numbers. The
services of the Misses Bearden, of
Atlanta, have been secured, and it
is not necessary to introduce these
clever concert entertainers.
There will be plenty of music, botn
instrumental and vocal. Miss Mil
dred Parks, of Atlanta, who is a
very fine soloist, will give a num
ber. Miss Constance Cole is next
with a violin selection,
Miss Regina Rambo and Miss
Earle Carter will furnish variety in
several new and original readings.
The Methodist quartette consist
ing Messrs. Lewis, Hemp, Waddell,
and Wallace will assist in the even
ing’'s entertainment. J. A. Harde
man has consented to lead the or
chestra that night.
’ Len Baldwin is in charge of the
properties and staging, and his con
nection with it will insure a sue
cessful program.
' It will be remembered that Ilast
year the Baraca entertainment was
a minstrel show. This year, it will
be along a distinctly different line,
but just as good. Remember, too
that all the proceeds go to charity.

SUDDEN DEATH OF MP. l
Mr Jolin McCutchen Dobbs,
known as ‘“Mack Dobbs, died sudden
ly Monday morning as he was walk
ing to the house from a visit to tae
field where he had been directing
farm work.
Two doctors were called but could
do nothing to restore him.
He leaves his wife, who was Miss
Florence Dawson, and 8 children.
Two of his daughters are married,
Mrs. Dean Towers and Mrs. Will
Dean, and the others are at home
four sons and two daughters.
.~ The funeral and interment were
‘at Bbenezer Church with Rev. W. W.
Gaines officiating. .
Tributes were paid to him in talks
by Judge Newt Morris, Solicitor Her
bert Clay, Mr. Lee McCleskey and
Judge Medford, of Woodstock.
Mr. Dobbs leaves four brothers,
Carter, Barney, Bean and J. ).
Dobbs beside numerous relatives.
The hymns sung were ‘“‘Nearer My
God To Thee', “There Is Rest For
the Weary” and ‘“Jesus Lover of My
Soul”. The pall-bearers were his
nephews, Morris, Glenn, Jeff, Frank
and Guy Dobbs.
A great many people attended the
funeral and the floral tributes were
beautiful.
COTTON REPORT.
Mr. J. L. Stephens, special agent
of the government, reports there
were 14,148 bales of cotton ginned in
Cobb county up to Nov. 14, 1915.
Last year up to the same date, there
’ym 17,489 bales ginned. This year’s
!."réport shows 3, 341 bales less than
last year.

Miss Grace George died Monday
night at the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs, B. F. George, on Camp
bell street, after an illness of more
than a year.
She was only 21 years old and
was a memger of the Baptist church
and of Mrs. J. J. Daniells Sunday
school class, She had many friends
and everything possjb"e was done*
to relieve her suffering which was
borne patiently until release camo
through the angel of death.
The funeral service was conduct
ed at the residenee by Rev. J. J.
Crow who had once been her pas
tor.
