To the Voters of the City of Marietta:
- Whereas, on December 14th, anl
election will be held in this City to
either ratify or reject a certain billl
recently passed by the General As
sembly of Georgia providing for the‘
paving of the pubilc square, streets
and sidewalks of Marietta, Georgia,
a copy of which bill appears in this
paper, and
Whereas, the voters of Marietta are
entitled to know what action will‘
be taken by the recently nominated
Mayor and Council in reference LD!
such paving provided said bill is rat
ified at said election, l
Now, therefore, It is our inten
tion, should this bill become a law,
not to attempt more street paving
than the public square and one block
off on each intersecting street, 7Tt
is also our intention in selecting the
citizens committee to give the prop-'
erty owners affected thereby rep
resentation on the same.
We feel that this matter deserves
the careful consideration of the peo
ple of Marietta. It is not a matter
that is being enacted by the newly
pominated Mayor and Council, but
i 8 & question that must he settled
by the voters themselves. If the bill
i 8 ratified in said election we will
do all in our power to carry out the
‘provisions of same, as above outlined
to the best advantage of all concern
ed. _
Respectfully,
MAYOR AND COUNCIL ELECT.

MR. BRUMBY'S TREAT.
Last Friday evening Mr. James R.
Brumby, Jr., invited the entire vot
ing pepulation of Marietta to a bar
becue at his garage on Church street.
Everyone accepted and spent a de
lightful evening. Mr. Verner, fa-i
ous for barbecues, came up from At
lanta to =superintend the cooking
which was done here over open pits.
There were three kinds of meat,
pickles, Brunswick stew fine bread
and other accessories to a perfect
cue. ;
The guests were so absorbed in en
joyment of the delicious meal that
no oratory was attempted.
However, when men come together
to “sit at meat,” in good humored
comradeship words are at first need
less to express cordiality of hosts
or the appreciation of guests and in
‘a short while even candidates and
‘newly elected men are “too full for
utterance.”
It was a most harmonious occa
sion and promises a successful and
happy administration for modest but
energetic little Jim Brumby.

GOOD WORK OF FIREMEN SAVES
FINE RESIDENCE FROM BURNING
Miss Sallie Camp’s handsome home
Tranquilla, on Kennesaw avenue
caught fire early Tuesday morning
in a bed room on the second fleor
which is rarely occupied. It is
thought the fire caught in the chim
ney flue through whieh smoke from
the furnace escapes. The city fire
department responded to the alarm
and soon extinguished the flames.
The furniture and wogd work in the
room were blistered by the fire and
some things destroyed but the house
and its coptents were insured.
It was fortunate the fire did not
break out early in the night or the
results might have been disastrous.
Miss Camp is wvery grateful to the
firemen for their quick work.
