Mr. T. A Gramling altended a
stock-holder’s meeting in Knoxville,
Tenn., this week and- Mrs. Gramling
accompanied him.
Miss Francis Law is at home after
spending five weeks delightfully in
Washington, D. C., with Misses Eloise
and Mildred Brown.
Mr. and Mrs, W. B. Sorrells, of
New York, who were married re
cently, spent last week-end with Mr,
and Mrs. Henry Ward.
Mrs. W. H. Carter, of Smyrna, at
tended the meeting of the ladies at
the Baptist Church Wednesday and
was a guest of Mrs. Hall.
Mr. Hubert Allen, who is at Gor
don Institute, Barnesville, spent the
week end with his grand-parents,
Judge and Mrs. J. M. Gann.
Mre. Warwick dand Mr. R L.
Parker, of Atlanta, were married at
noon Thursday at the Methodist par
sonage by Dr. Rembert Smith.
Mrs. N. S. Kitchens, of Birming
ham, and Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Collins
of Acworth, were recent guests of
Mr. and Mrs. George Northcutt.
Col. Felton Mundy, of Rockmart,
spent last Monday with Mr. and Mrs.
Will H. Welch and Mr. J. P. Trotti,
of Ac.anta, visited them on Tuesday.
Last Monday was Mr. William Wil
son's birthday and he was invited to
enjoy it with friends in Atlanta but
was kept at home by providential
reascns including weather,
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Carmichael
were called home from Sarasota,
Fla., on account of their son’s ill
ness and Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Osborne
came with them.
Miss Cora Brown went to Carters
ville last Friday evening to dance af
ter spending several weeks in At
lanta where she was charmingly en
tertained. She is now in Blackshear
with Miss Constance Brantley.
DEATH OF MRS. PILGRIM.
Mrs. Rebecca Pilgrim died Wed
nesday at her home in West End.
She was 93 years old and lived for
many years in Marietta. She leaves
one daughter, Miss Lizzie Pilgrim.

Although the Marietta Journal de
clares that Senator Dick Dobbs has a
‘‘corner in groceries” he has not
even sent us a cracker. However,
if he will run for governor The Free
Press will support him and bet its

Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hancock motor
ed up to Rome last Sunday to visit
their daughter, Miss Glennis Han
cock, at Shorter College, and brought
their little grand-daughter, Ann Eli
zabeth home with them. Her moth
er, Mrs. D. C. Hancock will come
down next week.

son street, Mr. J. B. Covington’s on
Roswell street and Mr. A. D, Hada
way's on Maple Avenue. Presiding
Elder W. H. Cooper led at Mrs.
Welshs and Dr. Rembert Smith at
Mr. Hadaway's. These home meet
ings will be held next Tuesday
evening and the places selecteq will
be announced next Sunday at
church.

day morning. He is enjoying these
bright days which seem quite sum
mery after his sojourn at Saranac
Lake where thermometers go away
below zero. He assured us that we
cannot imagine how good the Mari
lvtxa Journal looked to him and how
i eagerly he read every line in it. even
the advertising.
Mrs. W. H. Cooper left for Tamps,
Fla., Saturday night in response to
a telegram announcing the death of
her father, Mr. A. W. Henderson, who
had been injured by an automobile
a fu\\"da)‘s before. She took her lit
tle daughter, Virginia, with her and
will spend a month with her rela
tives. Miss Blondine Cooper will
keep house and fill her mother's
place, so she will not worry whiie
absent from home.
Local telenhone people are inter
ested in the announcement of the
appointment of T. R. Gentry as Com
mercial Superintendent of Division
One of the Southern Bell Telephone
Company, which includes the states
of Georgia and Alabama.
Mr. Gentry succeeds Macon Mar
tin, who has been promoted to be
Commercial Engineer. Mr. Gentry's
headquarters will be in Atlanta, bat
his new duties are expected to bring
him here frequently.
Starting as a clerk to a construc
tion foreman and having experience
in every feature of telephone work,
T. R. Gentry has succeeded despite
| the handicap of being the son of the
president of the company. He is de
clared to be a young man of unusual
ability and the possessor of an en
gaging personality.

The bride was bestowed by her

with hat to match and a bouquet of
bride roses and lilies of the valley.
Miss Mary Witherspoon was maid
of honor and Mr. Guy B. Shepard
best man.
After the wedding breakfast Mr.
and Mrs. Lang left for a honey moon
in Cuba.
They will be at home with Mr.
and Mrs. J. C. Talley until their own
house is completed. Mr. Lang was
a guest of Mr. Otis Brumby last
summer while Miss Talley was visit
ing her aunt, Mrs. T. A. Gramling.
