- THE CARNIVAL QUEEN. |
D i
The Immense float upon which
Miss Jean \Wallace, Queen of the
Carnival, rode made a beautiful pic
ture as it wound its way down the
avenues among the green trees car
rying its weight of youth and beau
ty to the coronation.
The float presented a magnificent
dppearance in white and gold, with
traceries here and there of white
morninggliory vines. Upon the float
was built a throne with white col
umns at the four corners, topped}
with chapiters of gold, supporting a‘
cancpy of white nmrning-g]ories,|
which terminated under a dome of}
gold. : ’
On the throne was a gold chair npv-;
on which the Queen sat in her Iwg:xl'
splendor. Her dress was a creation
in filmy white chiffon, (‘-l:lh("l‘:-\h‘]_\'!
trimmed in silver and pearls. The|
high Medici collar was made of silvm'.
lace edged with pearls. the long court |
train being edged with ermine. |
The maids in waiting who \\x-n';
Miss Irene Malene, maid of h()nf)l‘.l
Migs Cora Brown, Miss Julia A\mior-i
son, Miss Mary Robeson, 'Miss Laura |
Margaret Hoppe and Miss \‘ix';:‘imfl
Barnes, sat upon steps leading up t()}
the throne. They each wore sheer
est white organdy frocks made very
full, and carried silver baskets show
ered in pink sweet peas, with large
pink tullie bows on the handles.
On the throne with the Queen sat
her two little train bearers, Herbert
Clay and Bassford Field, These beau
tiful children dresped in quaint little
white satin suits made the picture
all the more entrancing. |
The Queens crown bearer, Palmer
Reynolds, 4 years old, rode in the
King’s chariot, carrying a white sat
in cushion, upon which rested the
jewelled crown of gold, to be placed
on the lovely head of the Queen.
This handsome child was perfectly
darling in a suit of white satin and
gold lace, with this he wore little
slippers of gold.
Surely the Queen could not have
found anywhere lin all the land,|
three moere beautiful children to add
to her retinue.
"liis lovely spectacle was drawn
by four big white horses with white
harness, outlined in white morning
yiory vines., Walking at the head
6. ecach herse was a footman in white
iiery.
i either side of the float rode the
Queen’'s Knights on horse back,
dressed in knightly attire, with silver
regalia, and from their sides hung
stiver swords ready to be drawn in
defvnse of their lovely young Queen. |
The Knights were Dr. Leslie Blair,
{*alph Northcutt, Tom Wallace, Stan
i»u Read, Reneck Gregg and Jesse
Northcutt.
