to her home in Temple after spend
ing several weeks with Miss Rozzie
Lee Kinney.
Prof. Spencer has resigned his po
sition in Marietta’s High School and
has accepted a place in the schooli
of Hawkinsville.
Mrs. Arlina Murphey is able to be
up after her recent critical illness
and is -with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. H. Barnes.
Mrs. Lily Collier Beall spent two
days last week in Atlanta with her
sister,.Mrs. E. C. Turner, who has
returned to Colorado.
Mr. E. L. Stringer has returned
from California and brought his
niece, Miss Stella Brewster, of
Omalar to spend the summer.

Florence, Ala., to visit Mrs. Walter
Brakefield and took Edward Brumby
and Armstrong Hunt with her.
Mr. Herbert Bullard had his right
shoulder diglocated .recently in. a
struggle with a “bucking’” colt from
whose back he was removing his
small brother.

Dr. Rembert Smith will preach in
Roswell on the 16th of July.
Mr. Charles Gardner has accept
ed a position in Washington, D. C.
Miss Goodwyn venny and Dick
Denny, of Rome, are visiting Mrs.
Albert Gardner.
Dr. and Mrs. O. T. Logan are now
in Bethany, 111.,, visiting relative.s
They are missionaries to China and
have come home to spend a year.
Mrs. ngan is a sister of Dr. Fred
Manget and will come to Marietta
during her visit home. ;

all but the cake was good and the

and chocolate cake has been sent to
the troops at Styx from Charleston
that the boys have issued a distress
call for onions, canned beans, corn
bread and such anti-climax subtstan
ces. Watermelons, however, are
eligible, and no doubt a little fudge
will be welcome. K

Miss Cora Brown wrote .to her
mother as soon as she arrived at the
Florida beach to say every one had
come through safely even Mr. and
Mrs. McNeel and the two Northecutt
families who left home in a heavy
rain and made the trip in their
trusty automobiles. Mr. and Mrs.
M. M. Sessions will leave on Friday
with their children in their touring
car and there will be quite a ‘col
cny” of Mariettans in Atlantic Beach
for several weeks.
\Mrs. Clay and Miss Evelyn Clay
spent a week in Washington City on
their recent trip north and saw Pres
ident Wilson marching at the head
of the preparedness parade. Despite
his governmehtal and political trials
and tribulations the president is said
to be in fine health and good spirits.
There is no tonic nor cosmetic to be

on the streets again looking none the
worse for his experience with sur
geons.
Dr. Patton was too ill Sunday
morning to fill his pulpit so there
was no preaching in the Presbyfer

his grand father. He came with
friends in an automobile and enjoyed
the trip greatly.
Mr. Robert Harris, who recently
graduated from Emory College, has
accepted a position with the Amer
ican Telephone and Telegraph Co.,
in Atlanta,
Mrs. M. James Smith left last
Sunday to spend the summer at her
home in Rutland, Vermont. She will
also visit friends in Saratoga Springs

his birthday but he celebrated it on
the 4th with a family reunion and a
barbecue which was greatly enjoyed.
