TWD MEN BADLY HORT
- Loyd Smith of Blackwells was
‘shot Sunday afternoon during a
fight in which conductor Rudder of
‘the Louisville and Nashville rail
road was seriously stabbed in the
‘head. Smith is at his home and
‘Rudder is in a hospital in Atlanta.
‘Both will recover it is thought.
- Wao shot Smith and who stabbed
‘Rudder has nst been determined as
it was a general fight. It is thought
that the flagman of the train shot
Smith and he is under bond of $5OO
until his commitment trial before
Judge B. V .Greer next Saturday.
It is said tnat a crowd went to
meet the train to give the flagman
a whipping and that a general fight
followed.
DEATH OF MRS. BISANER.
Mrs. Joe Bisaner died on Wednes
day in Augusta at the home of her
daughter, Mrs, Verdery, and was
laid to rest Thnursday afternoon in
the Episcopal cemetery in Marietta,
Rev. Randolph Claiborng conduct
ing the funeral.
She formerly lived here and bs
side Mrs. Verdery leaves another
daughter, Mrs. Harry Spilman, of
Atlanta, and one son, Mr, Sam Bisa
ner.
COTTON REPORT FURTHER
BEHIND ON LAST REPORT.
The report on the cotton produc
tion for Cobb County to December
13th, just compiled by Mr. J. L.
Stephens shows a total of 12,923
hgdes ginned up to that time as com
pared with 18,222 bales in 1915,
" This is a loss of 6,699 bales or
practically one third.
SPECIAL SERVICE AT THE
~ METHODIST CHURCH.
‘Both at ‘Sunday School which
meets at nine thirty and at the
eleven o‘clock service there will be
special features at the Methodist
Church on next Sunday morning
and a large attendance is expected.
The bishops of the Methodist
Episocopal Church and of the Math
odist Episcopal Church, South, have
issued an appeal that special prayer
be made for the Commission on the
Unificiation of Methodism whica
meets in Baltimore on December 28
and that sermons be preached on
“The Spirit of Methodism™. It is
no doubt to be a notable day in the
life of American Methodism. Doc
tor Smith will preach at the Metho
dist Church here and the musical
program will consist chiefly of the
great hymns produced by the Wes
leyan revival.
Tne Epworth League will be the
host of tne Baptist Young Peoples
Union at the night service after
which there will be preaching.

Athens, Dec. 27th. The annual
session of Farmer’'s Short Courses
of the Georgia State College of
Agriculture will run from January
3 to January 14, 1917. This year
boll weevil conferences will be held
each night during the short course,
which are to be addressed by farm
ers who have made a success grow
ing cotton under boll weevii con
ditions in states wast of Georgia.
Specially low railroad rates nave
been put into effact by the railroads
on account of the short course and
farmers conferences. The ten days
spent at Athens will give a farmer
the best of information about grow
ing cotton in spite of the boll weevil
and the necessary information a
bout varying farm practices.
Two new courses are offered this
year, one for farm macainery deal
ers that they may know the best
machinery to recommend fop chang
ed farming conditions and a short
courses for farm women touching
home gardens, poultry, dairying and
the like.
The Snort Course is believed to
be the most important provision
for the future success of the Geor
gia farmer that is offered in the
state., It is free except for one dol
lar initiation fee and is open to all
farmers,

three o'clock by Dr. Smith of the
Methodist church.
. The body was laid to rest in the
