l FIFTY YEARS ’t;
This issue of the Marietta Jour
nal, tie smallest in some time, is
the last issue for «the year of 1916
and 1916 is the fiftieth year that
the paper has been published. We
are not in the habit of throwing
boquets at ourselves or bricks at
others and that has been the policy
of the paper for fifty years. It is
a policy that will be continued. We
have little to say about the past for
the old paper is so well known that
it would not be p2rmissible as in
formation. For the future we feel
that we can continue the policy of
the paper and with a better equip
ped plant than ever we hope to
make the paper better,
The issue this w=2ek is small be
cause the Kditor, Mrs. Annie L.
Carter, has been sick in bed for sev
eral days. The linotype operator
is taking a week’s vacation out of
town and two of the other boys
have been off four days. Therefore
we just got up a little matter and
published these four pages in order
to comply with the requirements of
publishing the legal advertisements.
Everything of any importance that
we know of has been covered how
aver.
We want to add, of course, our
sincere tnanks for the liberal pat
ronage of the people. Ouyp circula
tion list is not the largest in cap
tivity but we do get the dollar we
charge for the paper out of practi
cally every name on the list. We
don’'t have to give it away and for
that reason we are able to continue
the subscription price at $l.OO. A
great many papers think that they
have to carry a large list of sub
scribers but we find that adver
tisers are much more willing to buy
space in a paper that people pay for,
and of course, read.
We also thank our advertisers
for their liberal patronage.
Wishing all our subscribers and
advertisers a prosperous and happy
New Year, and hoping to merit
your continued patronage, we are,
Yours very truly,
