!GEORGIA GOLFERS TO MEET
AT SAVANNAH ON MAY 16-19
} In the merry monta of May,
lwhen Savannah, Ga., is in her most
beautiful raiment, she will be the
’host to the golfing legions of Geor
;gia, who will come to participate
in the second annual state cham
pionsaip tournament. The tourn
ament will last for four days, from
and including May 16-19. ‘
! The golfers of the state are de-
Jighted at going to Savannah, fori
Savannah has always been a royal
host, with the art of delightful en
tertainment for fisitors that i 8
known and appreciated throughout
the country.
Tt a large number of the
knights of the links will partici
pate in this tourney is certain. At
lanta will be largely represented,
Messrs. Lloyd B. Parks, Lowry Ar
nold and John 8. Cohen, who are
looking after the tourney locally,
announce that already twenty-five
Atlanta golfers have signified theirl
intention of going to Savannah to
take part.
There will be handsome cups gi
ven to the winners in the tourna
ment. In addition to the cup for
the champion there will be trophies
or cups for the winners in every
flight that is filled.
Last yvear the first state tourna
ment was held at Brookhaven in
Atlanta, and was a splendid success.
No golfer who saw that spectacu
lar match between Little Bob Jones
and Perry Adair in the finals of
this tournament last year, will for
get it to his dying day. It was
the most sensational match ever
played in Atlanta and Bob, after
being four down in the morning,
won this tourney, two up, by a spec
tacular rally in the afternoon.
It i 3 very doubtful this year
that either Bob or Perry because
nt\ their school work, will be able
to attend the Savannah tournament
and for this reason, the probabili
ties are that another state cham
pion will be crowned in May.
The tournament will be held over
the beautiful 18-hole golf course at
the Savannah Country Club, and the
man in charge of the affair will be
none other than that dynamo of en
ergy and enthusiasm, Colonel Robh
ert M. Hull, the first vice president
of the State Golf Association, and
known everywhere to his many
friends as ‘“‘Bob.”
The president of the State Golf
association is Dr. J. A. Selden, cf
Macon, Ga., and the secretary and
treasurer is Lloyd B. Parks, of At
lanta. e
Golfers in all sections of the
state are invited to participate in
the affair, and nobody but a simon
pure Georgian, or one who has
taken out naturalization papers in
the state, will be allowed to take
part. So the champion of the state
will be a Georgian, and not an out
sider, as is the case in some state
tourneys.—Atlanta Journal.

KNOXVILLE BUSINESS MEN
+ IN MARIETTA ON TUESDAY
The boostingest band of boosters
with a band to boost the hand of
boosters landed in Marietta about
sevelj-thirty Tuesday might knd
Dlew tngir horns for about fifteen
or twenty minutes. It was the an
nuil trade trip of the Knoxville
Board of Commerce and they had
the brass band of tne Univellty of
Tennessee and a Boy Scouts drum
corp With them. At the last min
ute the plans for the trip were
changed and it was made a ‘“pre
paredness’ tour with several army
and navy officers in the party.
At Marietta they were received
by a large delegation of citizens
and after a parade around the
square there were speeches from
the band stand in tne park. Col.
M. M. Sessions made the address of
welcome and Judge Lindsey acted
as master of ceremonies. Col. “Ty
son made the principal address and
was frequently applauded by the
large crowd as he urged citizens to
join the army and navy and help
support tne cause of humanity.
Among the party was Commodors
Nelson, wno was with Ad
miral Dewey at the battle of Ma
nilla Bay when the Spanish fleet
was put our of action during the
Spanish-American war,.
The delegation made a splendid
impression in the few minutes they
were here and it was regretted that
they could not stay longer,

FARMERS UNION WILL
Will Plan System For
Marketing Products
Of The Farm.
To the Officers and Members of
the [Farrmiers Union of Georgia:
On May the First and Seccnd
toere will be held a state meeting
of the Farmer’s Union of Georgia
in Atlanta, Ga., State Capitol. 1
am Assured of large delegations
from all sections of the state al
ready, and I am especially anxious
for as many members as possible to
be present. In addition to the mem
bers, I extend a most cordial in
vitation to all farmers and business
men of tne state, who are in sym
patny with the Farmer’s U_nion, to
attend.
Just at present we have some se
rious questions before the people to
be solved. One of the most impor
tant questions before us is that of
working out a Marketing System
for the farmers of Georgia. We
have been studying production and
scientific farming for many years.
This has met with great successs
and I hope this good work will go
on—in fact, it must—but the time
has come when tne _farmer must
work out a system that will give
him profits as well as products from
his farm. /
Since we are confronted with the
boll weevil in Georgia and have nad
to substitute other crops for the cot
ton crop, therefore the question of
marketing has become more impor
tant than ever before. It will be
necessary to have an adequate sys
tem in order to dispose of our pro
ducts at reéasonable prices.
Arrangements are now being
made wity some of the foremost ag
riculqural authorities and experts
in preparation of the program of
speakers which will be announced
later.
We want the opinion of our mem
bers and farmers on this aand other
questions and you are hereby called
‘tu meet on tne above date at the
above place at 10 a. m. .
Reduced railroad fares have al
ready been secured. Do not fail to
|have a good representation from
lyour Local.
J. H. MILLS, President.
l ANDREW J. FLEMING,
i Secretary and Treasurer.
