Mr. Owens, a former Marietta
High School teacher, whe¢ is now in
training at Fort McPherson, spent the

Mr. Edward Smith, of Sycamore,
Ga., came up Monday to join his
wife and three children, who have

Mrs. Garnett, of Oakland, Cal.,
who has been visiting her cousin Miss
Esther Brewer, left for home Friday.

~On Monday evening the young la
dies swimming club invited quite a
|mxmber of beaux to swim with them
in the Crystal Pool. They wore their
best bathing suits and made a very
charming moving picture.
Mr. Lewis Hoppe, who has been
taking a summer course at the Uni
versity of Virginia, has arrived home
and will remain here until the middle
of September when he goes back to
resume his studies for the winter.
Mr. Stanley Hemp was among
'those of the 17th regiment of Rail
way Engineers who left Thursday
for France. Mrs. Hemp received a
card from him, saying that he ex
pected to be in New York Satur
day.

Colin Smith, and Emma Jean, Wil
liam and Rober Gilbert to spend the
‘day with him. Mr. Richardson has
a creek in which the boys can wade
and swim. :

Mrs. Eloise Easterlin has knitted a
soldier’s sweater for a young friend|
who is a member of the signal corps,
and is now knitting wristlets to
match. Her neighbor, Mrs. C. P.
Thornton, will knit a beautiful
sweater for one of her pretty young
nieces before winter.
Miss Dorothy Hebert, of New Or
leans, who has been visiting in At
lanta, and has had many entertain
ments given in her honor, visited Miss

A marriage of much interest in
Marietta is that of Mr. Burney Dobbs
and Miss Louise Vincent, of Athens.
Mr. Dobbs is the son of Mr. Albert
Dobbs. He was born in Marietta and
lived here until a few years ago,.
when his parents moved to Athens.’
He is a brother of Mrs. Walter Sams.
