Guy, a petted fox terrier, has a
regular summer bed on his owner’sl
back porch. It is made in a box
which has one side off so he can step
in. The top is screened with wire
net and a full net curtain hangs at
the side. So he is protected from
flies and takes all his naps in this
comfortable place.
Any one wishing to renew her
school day’s knowledge of French will
be exceptionally fortunate to enter
one of Prof. Lyne’s classes.. He once
taught in Marietta and is too well
known here to need any commenda
tion. Many Atlanta ladies are study
ing French in earnest. The letters
from French soldiers to girls in At
lanta are rather pathetic. One cou
ple of those correspondents made
the thrilling discovery that she was
named Frances, he was Francois and
both had red hair!
Miss Charlotte Northcutt was hos
tess at a picture show party in honor
of Miss Rosamond Griffith the guest

mie Montgomery, Jeannette Ander
son, Katherine DuPre, Alice Miller,

nie Lester Patterson, Nannie Connor,

lam, After enjoying the picture,

Apart,” the young people went to

ments.

Cooper, of Atlanta, and Misses An

decorated in old fashioned garden
flowers. These were in baskets, on
the tables,.an the pedestals of ban

Field, Hooper.Wikle, Frances Wikle,

for which she is prepared.
Miss Pauline Commerford writes
that she is delighted with her new
position. Her father was superin
dent of Arlington Cemetery when
she was a small girl and she feels
quite at home in Washington. She
has a very responsible position in the
office of Surgeon General Gorgas
who transformed the fever-ridden
Panama Zone into quite a desirable
healthful place to live. She has a
beautiful view of the Potomac from
her office window and the prominent
men from England and France who
come to consult with heads of de
partments are seen and met often by
her. Miss Pauline is such a quiet
and modest little lady no one meet
ing her casually would suspect how
intensely patriotic she is nor how
ardently she has wished to be able to
help her country in even the smallest
way. And now she is doing a helpful
“bit” indeed in the very midst of
the world trouble. Every morning
-on her way to work she sees Presi
dent Wilson coming out of the White
House grounds for his daily drive in
the fresh top o’ the morning. Think
of this dear little Marietta girl,“mod
est and shy as a nun,” meeting so
many workers behird the guns in
this great world’s war and being as
capable and faithful with her type
writer as any man is with his rifle.
