He was welcomed by a number o his friends who were so glad to have him with us again, especially the little folks: ; The young- people of this church pave made a great improvement in the lights, for which they deserve much praise. e Mr. Earl Westmoreland, manager of the electric light system in Austell, planned the new arrangement. Miss Sallie Mae Spratlin, of near Marietta, spent the past week with per aunt, and sister, Mrs. J. B. Wil son and Mrs. H. L. Davis. Mrs. J. R. Winters left Monday for 4 visit to relatives in New York. She was accompanied by her niece, Miss Louise Westmoreland. X Mrs. J. D. Perkerson has as her guest her sister, Mrs. Sallie Slaugh ter, of Atlanta. Misses Cora Strick jand and Willie Westmoreland and Mr. Earl Westmoreland were their suests Saturday night for supper, go ing down with Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Perkerson in their car. Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Creel ard fami- Jv have moved to Atlanta. Mr. John Causey has purchased their home, and moved to it this last week. Mr. Bob Clay and Mr. Warren found an auto truck with a party of <ix stealing roasting ear corn Sun day afternoon near Mr.. Clay’s home. They also had some watermelons in it, from Mr. Clay’s patch. Two of the party had been camp ing on Mr. McAndrew’s place wh‘ere Mr. Williams lives, from whom they got the corn. A few nights before they raided Mr. Causey’s cantaloupe patch, getting all fit to eat. They were arrested near Atlanta. Mrs. Wade and children, Master Hugh and little Mary, with Mrs. Wade’s mother, Mrs. Lee, of near Mableton, left Saturday for a visit to relatives in Mt. Airy, Ga. Mr. Grover C. Moore, of Atlanta, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Moore. Mrs. I. P. Copeland spent the week and with relatives in Atlanta. The Bartow County Fair Boosters passed this way last week about twen ty autos. They seemed to be having a fine trip. The rains in the last few days have ruined a lot of nubbins and made some fine hay. Mr. Earl Westmoreland caught a carp in Sweetwater last Saturday weighing ten pounds. Just a few days before he got a turtle that weighed twelve and a half pounds. Some fish in Georgia, too. BRELLA. SARDIS Mr. and Mrs. Jim Fuller visited Mr. Jasper Gantt and family Sunday. The continued rains are making everything grow especially the grass. Mr. Gus McPherson and family, of near Providence, visited Mr. Joe Me- Pherson Sunday. Willie Buchanan, who is werking for the county, visited home folks Saturday night, and Sunday. The protracted meeting starts at this place Friday night, Aug. 10th, and runs until Saturday night, Aug. 18th. Everybody is invited to at tend day and night. Mrs. Immer Cox, of Marietta, spent a few days this week with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Bill Smith. Mr. Bill Gantt and family, of this Dlace, visited relatives in Marietta Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. John Kilgore, of At lanta, spent a few days last week With Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Nix and o Wednesday they and Mr. and Mrs. N: A McCord, of Marietta, all went down to the river and had a nice fif en-pound fish-fry at Mr. Luther Nix's, Mr. and Mrs. Sp;nks, who live with Mr Barney Blacks’, are rejoicing ov¢r a fine baby that was born one day last week. She is now visiting Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Moss and will visit her father and mother this week. 1 We were sorry to learn of Mr. Alexander Mable almost loosing his hearing last week. He went to At lanta last Saturday to a specialist, came back hearing better than he had in several years. It was a pleas ure to the family to know that he could hear so much better. Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Gann, Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Daniell, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Glore, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Barber, Messrs. T. L. Gann, Eugene Barber, James and Clyde Glore spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Pearl H. Gann at High Point Sunday. They had a good dinner. Everything was so nice. The community is invited to meet at the Davis grave yard next Satur day to clean it off. Miss Irene Mgble spent the week end with her father, Mr. A. Mable. Mr. and Mrs. G. K. Willis and son, of Greenville, S. C., are visiting rela tives at Mableton. Mr. H. B. Mitchell returned home Sunday sick. We hope for him a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Owens chil dren and Grandchildren are visiting them this week. Mr. and Mrs. Ter rant Woodward, of Augusta, Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Asbell, of Augusta, and Mr and Mrs. Ed Morgan. Quite a house full. Mr. J. A. Lowe has purchased an automobile. BILL: LOST MOUNTAIN The Noonday Baptist Association convened with Lost Mountain Bap tist church last Wednesday. Rev. Geo. Crow preached the opening sermon. The association was or ganized and Rev. A. J. Morgan, of Acworth, was elected Moderator, Judge Greer, of Marietta, Clerk and J. R. Fowler, of Marietta, Treasurer. 28 churches, out of the 30 in the as sociation, had reports and were rep resented by delegates. 12 ministers were present. Thursday Dr. S. Y. Jameson, of Atlanta, who is work ing for the debt paying campaign, preached at 11 o’clock and made a strong plea for funds to raise the debts on the different institutions of the church. . Dr. H. C. Cree, Secre tary of the State Mission board, was present in the interest of missions. Rev. Bryan Colyer, represented the Christian Index and Rev. B. D. Rags dale represented Mercer Universi ty. The Association adjourned Thurs day afternoon to meet with Noon day church Wednesday before the Ist Sunday in August, 1918. The relatives here of Anderson Dobbins, of Sand Mountain, Ala., received a message that Mr. Dobbins was at the point of death, four of his nephews, Walter, John, Luther and Lonus Dobbins left Saturday morning to visit him. The rains are coming frequent and the ground is becoming tho roughly soaked.. The protracted meeting is in pro gress at Midway this week. Rev. J. E. Hemphill, of Atlanta, is assist ing the pastor. Rainey and children, of Walterboro, S. C. are visiting Mr. and ~Mrs. H. W. Kitchen. The Baptist Woman’s Missionary Union of Noonday Association was held here last Wednesday and Thurs day. Mr. Howard Hilley, who has re cently returned from England, lec tured at the school auditorium last Thursday evening for the benefit of the Red Cross. The prizes given, by ihe Civic League for the most improved sec tions of the town were awarded as follows: $3.00 to Jefferson Ave., for cleanest street; $2.00 to the park $l.OO to Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Newsome, of Buford, spent a couple of days here the lat ter part of last week with his father, Mr. G. W. Newsome, and also his little sisters and brothers. Mr. New some will leave in a short while for Texas. Miss Nellie Clay, of Orange Hill, spent the week-end as the guest of Mrs. A. P. Wise and Miss Philia Cas sidy. The many friends here of Mr. W. D. Brewer, of Atlanta, will be grieved to learn he is now in the hospital suffering from a sprained ankle he received on his run from Atlanta to Chattanooga, Tenn., during the past week. Mr. Brewer is an uncle of Mrs. G. E.Crow, of this cummuni ty and also has two brothers, Messrs. J. F. and N. A. Brewer, living in Ma rietta. Mr. Brewer has many Cobb county friends as well as relatives that hope for him a safe recovery. Series of meeting closed here on Tuesday night. During this meeting twenty three united with the church by experience and five by letter. Rev. J. J. Crow, of Atlanta, visit ed Rev. and Mrs. G. V. Crow here during the past week and while here on Tuesday he delivered two very able and interesting sermons. Little Jessie Margaret Moore who has been sick here for several days is now on the road to recovery. Mrs. A. P. Wise had with her Sun day for dinner Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gann, of Milford, and Miss Mary Van Winkle of Smyrna. Little Miss. Estelle -Crow’s condi tion does not seem to improve very fast and her mother, Mrs. G. V. Crow, has been quite indisposed for several days but Olive Springs friends wish for them both a speedy recovery. Rey. G. V.: Crow, J. T. Eubanks, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. White, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Barber, Mr. J. W. White and son, Mr. S. A. White, attended the association at Lost Mountain on Wednesday last going over in Mr. Eubank’s and Mr. White’s. car, and also Mr. T. F. and sons, Messrs. Hen &Y and Hubert going in Mr. Knox’s ears the same day. Introductory sermon was preached by Rev. G. V. Crow using as his subject “Peace” which was very appropriate. Mrs. Ed Baswell continues very low at this time. Miss Annie Butler is in Athens on a visit. Mr. C. D. Reed and family, of Atlanta, spent several days here with Mr. Reed’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J., L. Reed. Mrs. D. L. Moon and son, George, after spending several days here with relatives, returned to their home at Rice on Friday afternoon. Mr. J. A. York and family came up from Atlanta to visit Mrs. J. H. York, Mr. York returning to Atlanta Sunday afternoon, while Mrs. York and the children will remain several days longer. On account of rain the singing here Sunday afternoon was not very well attended. Mrs. E. E. Johnson and little Jose phine who have been with Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Barber for the summer, spent the past week with their aunt, Mrs. Lula Howard, at Shady Grove. CLYDE. PINE MOUNTAIN. We are still having plenty of rain in this section. Miss Clara Wallace visited her grand-mother in Atlanta Friday and Saturday. Miss Cora Dickson, of Marietta, spent part of last week with her uncle, Mr. T. J. Helton. Mrs. C. A. Kerap is on the sick list and hope she will soon be better. Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Griggs visited Mr. J. T. Compton Sunday. Ernest Compton who is working at Silver Lake, visited home folks Saturday night and Sunday. Mrs. Carter and daughter, of Ac worth, visited Mr. T. J. Helton and family Saturday night and Sunday. Mr. Erngst Pilgrim, of Corner Cha pel, spent Thursday night with Mr. Roy MecCutcheon. Master Estes Wallace is visiting his grandmother, of Atlanta. Mr. Mayfield, of Atlanta, visited Mr. J. F. Matthis Sunday. Mr. Willie Griggs, who has been spending some time with his parents returned back to Kentucky Saturday where he has been at work, Miss Cora Dickson, of Marietta, spent Thursday night with Miss Les sie Austin. CORENR CHAPEL Most everybody from this section attended the Moon reunion at Grant Park August Ist, and reported a fine time. Mr. O. L. Hill and family spent Wednesday with her mother. It seems to continue this raining right on. . Mr. John Cathcart and family, of Atlanta, spent the week-end with her brother, Mr. W. P. Bullard. Miss Arrie White spent the week end at Marietta with home folks. Miss Chester Daniell spent Satur day and Sunday with relatives here. Mr. Timothy Bullard, of Houston, Tex., is visiting relatives here. Mrs. Mary Moon ana family, of Austell, spent Saturday with her bro ther, Mr. A. A. Martin. Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Hardage, returned to her 'mme in Douglasville last week, Mrs. G. R. Lewis went to Atlanta last week tospend a few days with her son and daughter, Mr. Homer and Miss Julia Lewis, who were going to DeTroit, Mich., to live. Miss L. E. Hardage returned home from Atlanta last Wednesday. Mr. P. M. Hairston, of Dublin, is visiting his daughter, Mrs. Ollie Carnes. Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Hardage and two children, of Largo, Florida, are visiting relatives here and in Mari etta. Mr. Glenn Ashley, of Atlanta, vi sited home folks. There is about twelve hundred sol diers camping at Mr. Clay’s mill, They were to participate shooting at the Kennesaw Mountain. It is rain ing so much guess they will have to stay in camp. MUGGINS. Lunsford. Mrs. Alice E. White is here for a short stay before going to Shawmut, Ala., where she will make her home. Mrs. Emogene Fleming Mizell, from Jacksonville, Fla., is the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Fleming. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Lewis, Eugene and Paul Lewis spent the week-end with their parents, here. Mrs. Guy Lindley and children, of Atlanta, are spending several days with the family of Mr. J. F. P. Lind ley. Miss Edith Baggett came out from Mtlanta to spend her vacation with home folks. Dr. A. B. Vaughn preached a good sermon at the Methodist church Sun day morning. He will leave in a few days for his home in La Grange. Services will begin at the Metho dist church on the third Sunday. Rev. R. A. Edmondson, from St. Paul, Atlanta, will assist in these meetings. POLLY. ORANGE HILL Rev. S. E. Cassidy filled his regu lar appointment here Sunday preach ing two fine” sermons. Protracted services will begin the fourth Sunday in August. Brother Cassidy will be assisted with the preaching by Bro ther Stallings, of Carrolton, Ca. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Anderson and children are spending a few days with relatives in Atlanta. Miss Eva Wilson, of Dallas, was the week-end guest of her brother, Mr. Wily Wilson and family. Miss Nellie Clay returned home from River Side_Thursday to attend the Teachers Examination in Mari etta Friday and Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Grover Andrews, of Rome, are spending a while with her brother, Mr. B. W. Smith. We deep ly sympathize with Mr. and Mrs. An drews in the recent loss of their degr little baby girl. Mrs. J. R. Pair is spending a few days in Dallas. Miss Esther Vaughn, of Mount Zion, is visiting her brother, Mr. E, M. Vaughn and family. Mr. H. F. Pair and children, Mar guerite, Harry Jr., and Virginia, of Atlanta, have returned home after a delightful visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Pair. Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Stallings were the guests of Mrs. R. H. Clay Sun day. Mr. Kyle Pair, of Jacksonville, Fia., spent a few days here with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Pair, last week. Crops are pretty good in this sec tion, if the rain continues think we will have plenty of corn bread and sorghum.
