LOVELY BIRTHDAY PARTY.
Mary, the pretty little daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Coyle, celebrated
her fourth birthday with a lovely
party on Monday afternoon. Quan
tities of spring flowers adorned the
house, white and yellow being the
| color scheme used.
A wonderful cake, iced in white
!and embosed in yellow flowers was
' the central decoration for the tabie
!in the dining room. On this burned
l four tiny yellow tapers, and wreath
ed about it were golden jonquils. The
{ table was covered with lace over yel
low and yellow mints were in the bon
' bon dishes. Streamers of yellow tulle
went from the chandeliers to the
four corners of the table and each
one ended in a fluffy bow of the
tulle that held in place a bunch of
jonquils.
Mary received her small guests in
a lacy white frock and yellow sash,
and her long curls were tied with a
big bow of yellow satin. She receiv
ed many gifts.

MISS McCLESKEY GIVES DANCE
Miss Ethel McCleskey entertained
with a dance en Thursday evening
and also progressive games. The
living room, dining reom and parlor
were gay in their decorations of
daffodils and violets. The music was
by a string band.

BAND ENTERTAINED |
‘The Vaudeville Committee of the
Surgical Dressings Class entertain
ed the 319th Field Artillery Band, at
the residence of Mrs. Howell Treze-‘
vant, after the concert in the park
on Wednesday afternoon. '
This band, under the Icadership of
Mr. Tedesco, has been most accomo
dating on all occasions, and the la
dies wished especially to show their
appreciation of the services they so
kindly rendered at the recent vaude
ville show. The quartette from the
headquarters company, was also en
tertained by the ladies. The ladies
composing the vaudeville conwmittee
Mrs. Will Shippen, Mrs. A. V. Cor
telyou, and Mrs. T. M. Patterson as
sisted Mrs. Trezevant in serving.
Spring flowers in profusion adorn
ed the heuse, the dining reom being
especially attractive. A large bowl
of jonquils formed the center-piece
for the table, flanked on either side
by small bowls of violets. The sil
ver candle-sticks held yellow tapers,
in lavender pom-pons, and yellow
mints were in the ' silver bon-bon
dishes.
COUNCIL DEFENSE MEETING.

and others at her home Thursday
morning, March 7th. A number were
present and much interest was shown
in the campaign for the War Savings |
Stamps. Mr. M. L. McNeel, Seventh |
District Chawman for the Savings
Stamps, was present and told of the
work being done by the other goun
ties, and that Cobb must not fail to
take her usual high stand in this'
work as she has done in other lines.
It was decided to make Saturday, |
March 23rd, a campaign day for the .
sale of the stamps in Marietta, and
Cobb County, and plans were made to
carry out a successful campaign on
that day. |

HOSTESS AT LUNCH.
A charming event of Saturday was
the charming luncheon Given by
the luncheon given by Mrs. Fred
Morris in honor of Miss Mary Wil
son, of MNebraska, the house-guest of
Mrs. M. L. McNeel. The table was
a symphony in purple and gold. Lace
mats were used on its polished sur
face. The central decoration was an
artistic bowl of jonquils, around
which circled a dozen smaller bowls
of the fragrant violets.
The name cards were on tiny yel
low blossom-decked baskets of mints.
The delicious menu carried out the
spring-like color scheme in many de
tails.
Mrs. Moris’s guests at this happy
affair were Mrs. M. L. McNeel, Mrs.
Floyd Northcutt, Mrs. W. A. DuPre,
Mrs. George F. Montgomery, Mrs

The officers of the Ist Battalion of
the 319th Regiment were hosts at a
very pleasant dance at the Club on
Tuesday evening, the orchestra from
the Regimental Band furnishing the
music.

DINNER TO VISITORS.
A charming affair of Tuesday ev
ening was the dinner given by Mr.
and Mrs. M. L. McNeel in honor of
the distinguished visitors to our city
who spoke at the “patriotic rally” at
the court house.
The decorations for the elegantly
appointed table were in yellow, the
center piece being a graceful crystal
basket of dainty gold-colored roses.
Yellow shaded candles were in tall
silver candle-sticks, and yellow mints
in the silver bomn-bon dishes.

COBB COUNTY UNIT WOMAN'’S
COMMITTEE OF NATIONAL DE
FENSE TO HOLD RECEPTION
The Cobb County Unit Woman’s
Committee National Defense, Mrs.
George F. Montgomery, Chairman,
has issued invitations to a reception
at the Golf Club Friday afternoon.
A large number of Marietta women
and others from the organized dis
tricts in the county will be present
to meet Mrs. Samuel M. Inman, Mrs.
Samuel Lumpkin, Mrs. J. P. Stephens
and Miss Van de Verde.
These ladied are leaders in the
great work the women ef Georgia
are accomplishing in Defense work.
They are women of charm, of per
sonality, and their presence at the
reception Friday afterneom will be
an inspiration as well as a pleasure
to the women of Marietta, and Cobb
County.
U. D. C.’s GRATEFUL FOR .
TOWELS AND MONEY
Kennesaw Chapter U. D. C., wishes
to thank each and every one who res
ponded to #heir recent appeal for
towels to be sent to the hospital at
Camp Gordon. Ninety-one towels
were received.
Waterman street school is also on
the Honor Roll for its fine contribu
tion towards the fund for the Red
Cross Hospital in Paris. The U. D.
C.s have endowed 2 beds, named for
two of our greatest heroes of the
past, John B. Gordon and Alexander
H. Stephens.
~ The school children raised $14.00
for these.
BAPTIST CHURCH NEWS.
There were a goodly number of
new pupils in the Sunday School last
Sunday.
The text at the eleven o’clock ser
vice was Mat. 9:37-38, and Dr.
White’s theme was “Jesus and the
vision of the home field.”
Miss M. K. Mell’s group led at the
B. Y. P. U. and they acquitted them
selves with credit.
_At night the text was Mat. 14:31.
