ATLANTA CONVENTION
OF COUNTY CHAIRMEN
An All Day Conference Was
Held With Federal
Directors.
About sixty county chairman met
with the Federal Director for the
South, Mr. Otto Marx, and with Mr.
Vanderlip’s assistant, Mr. Kavanaugh
both from the Washington office, in
the Piedmont Hotel, Atlanta, on Mon
day. The meeting lasted all day.
It was stimulating to come thus in
contact with the national Teaders.
Many new ideas were gathered;'and
the chairmen went home with a
strong purpose to do their utmost.
It was a pleasure to know that
Cobb County was not second to any
other in what has been accomplish
ed; and yet it made one feel small
to know that we had done so little.
From now until May 4th the county
organization must be perfected; and
after that aggressive action.
The story of Powder Springs will
be written in another column; but
let this sermon strike home,—if Pow
der Springs with a country road for
its one street could in one day lend
the government $B,lOO in the form
of Liberty Bonds, and nearly $lO,-
00 in the form of War Stamps, it is
surely up to the other towns in the
county to do something worth while.
In proportion to her size, Powder
Springs has done better than Mari
etta. -
The quota for Marietta is $120,-
000 for the War Stamp loan, so we
have scarcely made a start. That
means that the average is $2O for
each man, woman and child. The
government makes'you its banker;
it hands to you its note for $5 for
every $4.15 that you will lend. So
let us'all work, conserve, economize,
and practice self-denial in the way
of elothes and food and pleasures
that we may fight the good fight to
a triumphant end.
All committees should go to work
or resign. We must reach every ne
gro church and school in the county.
The county scheols have not been
touched. By June Ist there must
be at least twenty War Savings So
cieties in Marietta.
Requirement for membership are:

sary purchases. 2. Save systemati
cally. 3. - Invest some savings in
War Stamps. 4. Influence some
one else to do likewise. .
A great change is coming over far
mers throughout the state. Reports
showed an increased interest and
larger loans in rural districts. This
also accounts for the fine results at
Powder Springs. They are realiz
ing the vital relationship between the
furrow and the trench!

County Chairman.
