To the People Who Are Interested in Moving Pictures:
Last week an advertisement of a local theatre was published in a Marietta
paper, in which the statement was made that the theatre in question would show
“first run” Paramount, A rtcraft, Metro and Fox Pictures.
As The Strand holds contracts. with these companies for exclusive first
showing of their pictures in Marietta with exception of a few pictures which we
refused and would not allow on our screen, we present the following copies of
correspondence which explains itself.
S. A. Lynch Enterprnses, Inc.
Atlanta, Ga., July 15 1918.
Mr. F. G. Marchman, Manager,
The Strand Theater,
Marietta, Georgia.
My dear Mr Marchman:
In connection wih the advertise
ment carried in the Marietta paper,
wherein the Dixie Theater advertises
that it has contracted for Artcraft:
and Paramount Pictures, will say
that we have no contract of any na
ture with this theater, except for the
showing one Paramount Picture,
namely; ‘“The Guilty Man.”
Th:a advertisement was an entire
surprise to the writer, and we call
your attention to the fact that it will
be impossible for us to offer service
to other than yourself in Marietta.
We would refer you to our recent
It has never'been, and never will be the policy of The Strand to deceive the public.
i ‘We v]s{itll continue to show the Highest Class Pictures, and show them while they are NEW, and at prices in keeping with
eir quality.
You will realize of course, that NEW prints of NEW pictures cost more than OLD and WORN prints of OLD pictures. The
difference is obvious. | -
If you read the Atlanta papers you will see that we show the same pictures, in nearly every instance, as shown at the For
lsyth, Rialto, Strand and Criterion, soon after they are shown at these theatres, and in some cases before they are shown in At
anta. |
This sort of service and the class of pictures we show, costs money, but The Strand has found that it pays to show the BEST
pictures while they are NEW, , ’ :
Marietta and Cobb County has never been satisfied with anything but the BEST and you will always find it at The Strand.
The following stars will appear on The Strand screen in their latest pictures as they are released:
Rex Beach |
Enrico Caruso
Harold Lockwood
Viola Dana
Rita Jolivet
Madam Nazimova
Emily Stevens -
Edith Story
William Farnum
If you will read the above list you will see the names of all the leading stars of filmdom, and among threm you will find your
favorite player. ’ :
It is not our purpose to enter into a campaign of mud-slinging, but we do propose to protect ourselyes and our patrons from
unscrupulous advertisers. 'HE STRAND THEATRE, :

I am at a loss to understand why
Mr. E. L. Stringer, in announcing the
opening of the Dixie Theater stated
that he had contracted for the Fox

. him for an explanation — a copy of
my letter hereto attached.
For your information, Mr. Stringer
has several times attempted to secure
Fox Pictures, but in every instance
we declined to discuss business, in
asmuch as our present contracts with
you were quite satisfactory.
Trusting the above information is

Mr. E. L. Stringer, Manager,

Marietta, Ga., :
Dear Mr. Stringer: *
I was quite surprised to note that
in your announcement of the open
ing of the Dixie Theater, you inform
ed the people of Marietta, through
the Cobb County Tmes, that you had
conracted for Fox Pictures.
This is an erroneous statement, as
as not a single picture has been book
ed you from this Exchange.
In fairness to Mr. Marchman, the
writer would consider it a favor if
you retracted this statement, either
through your local newspaper, or by
letter directed to the undersigned.
Very truly yours,
