bama, last week going through the
country in Owen's car.
The Midway Farmers Union will
have a public meeting at the Midway
school house on Thursday, afternoon,
August Ist. Hon. J. J. Brown, Com
missioner of Agriculture, will address
the meeting, and Dr. D. E. Sawyer
will talk on general topics. Some
farmers who have had experience are
asked to speak. Those invited to
speak are: Ralph Dewberry and Gus
Ware, dairying; Webster Dunton, po
tato raising; W. L. Florence, raising
of beef cattle; W. T. Chastain, needs
and benefits of organization. The
public is invited, come and you will
learn something.
The peach trees are breaking down
with fruit of very fine quality. The
farmers are utilizing all they can in
drying and canning, but they find a
very poor market for their surplus
fruit.
Prof. Pledger Jones of Yorkville
will open a singing school on Monday
after the second Sunday.
Johnnie Bridewell, who was living
with J. C. McCowan, died last week
from typhoid fever and was buried
at New Hope Saturday.
Misses Nannie and Jessie Kemp are
having a new room built to their
dwelling.
Hugh Kemp of New Hope and Bill
ie Kemp of Camp Gordon visited
their aunts, Misses Nanie and Jessie
Kemp, on Sunday.
Protracted service will begin at
Midway Church on Saturday before
the first Sunday in August.
The legislature says to ‘“work or
fight.”” They should be more explicit
for there are so many different kinds
of fighting. What kind do they
mean? Fight the kaiser, fight the
boll weevil, fight the corporations,
fight the devil, fight the grass, or
can a fello wtake his choice and get
can a fellow take his choice and get
up a fight at home? . Then there is
a particular kind going on in the sen
atorial contest, and Atlanta is having
a school fight. Take your choice and
go to it. :

Last Thursday was a happy day
for Miss R. V. Daniell, who cele
brated her 15th birthday with a par
ty, inviting a large number of her
close friends and neighbors.
Mrs. N. R. Eidson and Mrs. L. E.
Dawson received news announcing
the sudden death of their sister, Mrs.
Mattie Tibbitts. Mrs. Dawson at
tended the funeral at Cross Roads on
Wednesday. They have the condo
lence and sympathy of many friends
in their great sorrow.
Mrs. Georgia Bradley and children
of Etowah are here on a visit to Mrs.
Bradley’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S.
Hicks.
Mr. Felix Foster and family and
Mr. and Mrs. Jordan Sanford have
returned home from a visit to various
parts of south Georgia.
A series of meetings will begin
here on Sunday, July 28th. Rev. G.
V. Crow will be assisted by Rev. R.
M. Donehoo.
Col. and Mrs. Jessie Moore were
called to Atlanta Sunday on account
of the serious illness of Mrs. Moore’s
mother, Mrs. L. G. Soyez. ,
Mr. W. P. Wise of this place has
accepted a position with the Georgia
Railway and Power Company in At
lanta as motorman.
Mr. J. H. Thomas and family mo
tored up to Adairsville Sunday. Miss
Ora Cassidy, Mrs. Thomas’ sister, has
been on an extended visit there and
returned with them.
Mrs. J. M. York of Atlanta is here
on a visit to relatives.
Little Miss Geneva Drake of this
place and her mother, Mrs. Dovie
Drake, who is a nurse at Dr. Nolan’s
Sanitarium, are on a visit to rela
tives in Etowah.

Mr. Nathan Hilderbrand and his sis
ter, Miss Lois.
Mr. Byron Brooks was with us last
Sunday dressed in a marine suit. He
enlisted recently, and we know who
will make good for his country for
he has made good at everything else
he has undertaken.

Camp Thomas, B. S. A. No. 19,
of Atlanta, are enjoying an outing in
Mr. J. D. Perkerson’s pasture. About
fifteen boys are in the camp.

Everything is looking fine since
the rains that have fallen during last

; The county teachers examination
iwill be held August 2nd and 3rd at
lthe High School building in Marietta.
{On Friday will be held the Primary
and first half of the General Fle
mentary examination, and first half
of the High School and supervisory
examination. On Saturday will come
the second half of the above. Pri
mary can not be taken on Saturday
and no variation from above stated
;regulations will be granted. Appli
cants must furnish their own paper
and other materials needed. Two
members of the Board of Education
will be present each day to assist me
in supervising the work. Examina
tions begin each day at 8:30 o'clock,
and applicants must be present by
that hour.
Also will be held the examination
for renewal of all first grade licenses
that expire this year and for teach
ers who have licenses from other
states.
