THE subscriber has thoroughly tried, at Ma
eon apd Columbus, Georgia, Ids.wroiight-iron-
Cotton Screw, where tw o of them are now standing
and will remain until October for inspection. 1 be
lieve it i* the cheapest, by half, ever offered for the j
purpose of pressing cotton or hay,a* the frame,screw- j
pin, and leavers are all of wrought iron. - It should
be attached to the gin-house, and have it put up
through the floor, as the ordinary press—the lever*
being only five feqt in length—to huve the- w idth of;
the house nnd,lH 0r.20 feet in length, the lint cquld |
then he placed all Around the screw. Then a man
can take five hands and puck as many fivc-hundred
pound-bales in one day, with as little labor to the
hand, as the same five and two more, with a horse,
can on the wood-screw in the same time. Three
hands can put tfy one and take it down, and ir can be
carried at one load with four mules to any point.—
