Warm Talk Over Printing or

The statement was to the effect that
the people of Beaufort county held the
governor In contempt for his stale
'iiients In Ills messages referred to and
Senator Christensen In caustic lan
guage flayed the governor.
Senator Sullivan thought the lleau
fort senator had a perfect right to
have his statement and the letters
printed In the Journal and made n mo
tion to this effect. Senator Clifton
moved to amend hy striking out the
first two paragraphs of the state
ment In which the part wherein 11 was
staled thut lleaufort people held the
governor In contempt was contained
and to print the balance of the state
ment and the letters In the Journal.
Personal Privilege.
Senator Christensen rising to n
question of personal privilege had
math- his statement and sent It to the
desk and asked for its incorporation In
the Journal
Senator Crouch had offered n motion
to rescind the messages of Governor
Klease on the Fortner bill. Senator
Strait thought there had been noth

twenty-four hours.
Senator Christensen said he hnd
made Ills statement and stood hy It.
hut left it entirely with the senate
whether to endorse the statement or
not lie said he was responsible for
what he said and ledined to agree to
eliminate any of it.
Senator Alan Johnstone warned the
senHte to consider where it was going
if the motion of the senator from
Saluda to rescind the governor's mes
s;wtc prevailed.
Bordered on Insults.
He said that uction had been taken
after the message from tho governor
which bordered closely on insults to
every senator and which had been pre
sented hy the senate, had been printed
In the Journal In open session in an
swer to assertions that the senate had
been sitting behind closed doors afruld
to let the people know what they were
doing He said to adopt the Saluda
senators motion would he destroying
all that procedure. He said this had
led up to a situation which was un
pleasant and irritating, and while he
spoke of the right of the people of any
county to petition or memoralUe the
general assembly yet he held that the
senate was the Judge of what should
and what should not he printed in its
journal This covered, he stated, mes
sages and other communications from
every source. The Newberry senator
thought the course suggested hy Sen
ator Crouch would he blotting out
what the senate had done in cold
Judgment. Following Stator John
stone's speech. Senator wt, *y
drew his motion to rescind the gov
ernor's message and it was on the sug
gestion of Senator Johnstone to Sen
ator Clifton that further consideration
of the matter was postponed.

The earthquake, which was of about,

was a reminder of the earthquake of

Union Increases Service
TWO connected telephones make the simplest form of tele
phone communication.
Three segregated pairs give three lines for telephone talk.
Unite the three pairs by means of a central office and an
intercommunicating exchange system is formed, giving fifteen
talk tracks.
Five pairs thus connected give forty-five lines of communi
cation, and so on, in regular mathematical rule.
Millions of such groups are thus connected in the Bell
System.
