Vienna.—The Archduchess Zita who less than two years ago married the Archduke Francis Joseph, heir pre sumptive to the Austrian throne, prac tically has been elevated to the posi tion of "first lady" at court affairs given by Emperor Franz-Joseph, in Schoenbrunn Castle. The direct heir to the throne Is the Archduke Francis Ferdinand, gephew of the emperor. Ferdinand's descend ants, however, nre barred from the succession owing to his morganatic marriage with the Duchess of Hohett berg. The Archduke Charles Francis Joseph Is the sun of the emperor's third brother. The rivalry between the Duchess of Hohenberg and Archduchess Zita has been very keen, hut the young ar,Jt duchess seems to have won out. mueti to the discomfiture of the duchess and her husband, who has tried to per suade the emperor to elevate her to the status of archduchess. Zita Is the twelfth of nineteen chil dren of Duke Robert of Parma. Al though compelled to live in Vienna aa but four months of each year, she has tried to master three of the seyenteen languages and dialects of the dual kingdom.
