Atlantic City, N. J.—lnteresting re sults of the studies of pellagra by ex perts who have been engaged for months in research work were present ed to the house of delegates of the American Medical Association here today. On behalf of the Thompson-McFad den Commission a report was submit ted l>y J. F. Siler, captain medical corps, F. S. A.; P. R. Garrison, M. D., passed assistant surgeon XT. S. N., and W. J. Mac Neal, M. Ih, New York. Their synopsis showed that in Spar tanburg county, South Carolina, pel lagra is most prevalent in the cotton mill villages. It attacks particularly women, young children and old people of both sexes. The disease seems Lo originate through proximity to or as sociation with a pre-existing cake of pellagra. It spreads most rapidly in districts w here unsanitary- methods of sewage disposal are :n use. Hygienic Treatment. Attempts to transmit pellagra to an imals have been unsuccessful. Hy gienic and dietetic treatment of the disease has yielded good immediate results but after returning to former conditions of environment nearly all eases have recurred. The house of delegates, in which is centered the administrative functions of the body, went on record as opposed to the evils of child labor. Resolu tions deploring the conditions under whit li many thousands of children work were adopted without a disse. .- ing voice. Resolutions also were adopted set ting forth that leprosy exists and has bean shown to tie on the increase; -that those afflicted with leprosy are subjected to the most inhumane treat ment. that many lepers are traveling In interstate traffic, constantly ex posing the general public to the con tagion arid it is the duty of congress to pass a law providing for the com prehensive care and control of the disease.
