SUNDAY, AUGUST 9. Society THE PASSING OF A BEAUTIUL SPIRIT. (Contributed.) The of the United States, re gardless of creed or politics, bow in sympathetic sorrow with President Wilson in this ills hour of great be reavement. And indeed is his loss a loss to the whole of the nation, for Mrs. Woodrow Wilson was one of those rare personalities who impress their influenec for good and nobility on all with whom they come in touch. A gifted woman in many ways, her greatest gift and attainment was evi denced by a heart of love and sym pathy for the low and humble and the distressed; her home life was an ideal one, and to him in whose keep ing she placed her life and happiness, she was not only a mainstay and a comfort but an inspiration, a help mate in the fullest meaning of the word. Early in life they two joined hands and together have they struggled over the rough paths, the rugged heights, and into the sunlit meadows; sharing alike in the sorrows when they came as well as rejoicing in each other’s victories or accomplished ambitions. And now that they have come to the parting of the ways for a season, with the grief felt by the one left alone, there can linger naught hut the fullest satisfaction for the way they trod hand in hand. Memory of her- will live as a halo of glory and a monument more enduring than shaft granite or column of bronze. Many, in truth, are the saddened hearts the passing of Mrs. Wilson leaves behind, not only in her imme diate family hut in her large circle of friends and amongst those who have felt the cooling touch of her hand cn fevered brow or heard her soft-spoken words of encouragement in times of distress.
