The Philathea movement, organized Sunday school classes for young wo men. has added a new class to its roll, that of the First Presbyterian Sunday school. Miss Annie G. Wright is the president, and Dr. Sevier is the teach er. The class meets with the regular Sunday school at 3:30 each Sunday af ternoon, sitting in the balcony of the beautiful Sunday school building. Committees are being formed to extend a personal invitation to all the young ladles of the central part of the city to join this class. Through these columns they desire to cordially invite any young lady over sixteen years of age who desires to, to come and join. i SANTA CLAUS AT FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. The young People’s Society of the First Presbyterian church are prepar ing to play Santa Clause to a number of destitute families. They will go out with toys, clothing, candies, etc., Christmas eve. This plan has beep followed by’ the First Presbyterian church for several years, most of the gifts going to families of other than Presbyterian faith. The society solic its gifts of second hand clothing, sec ond hand or new toys, money, candy or oranges or nuts. If sent to the Tel fair Building before Tuesday night any broken toys will be mended. A great many mothers like to clean out the old toys before the new supply of Christ mas comes in, and welcomes this way of seeing that reach the people who will truly appreciate them. Last year many pathetic sights were beheld by the distributing committee as they drove around in the big bus. One little child, scantily clothed, was seen sitting before a cold fireplace hugging a head less and armless doll. Prof. E. M. Osborne entertained the boys of his night school at supper Fri day night, the occasion being greatly enjoyed. —Mrs. Maurice Walton and John Walton left Friday for Virginia. THE LUCKY DOLL NUMBERS. Pretty carnations were sold at the Y. W. C. A. candy sale a few weeks ago and also yesterday. The lucky pink one was numbered 93 and tho crimson one 79. Those holding the corresponding numbers can call at tho i association, present their numbers, and secure two of the prettiest dolls ever seen in Augusta. MR. SIKES TO SING TODAY. Mr. Alvin of Detroit, Mich., who has a beautiful bass voice, will sing at the morning service today at First Christian church. Mr. Sftces will sing as a solo, “The Lord Is My Light." Conover, who is at the head of the motor de partment of the Wright Aeroplane Co., of Dayton, and who Is also superin tendent of all the government demon stration work for the Wright Co. —Mr. W r . D. Phillips, manager of S. H. Kress & Co’s, store in Americus, Ga., will arrive this week to spend Christmas at home. • The many little friends of Master Thomas J. Hamilton, Jr„ will he pleased to hear that he is slowly im proving after an attack of bronchitis. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Sikes have with them for the holidays Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Sikes and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Sikes of Detroit, Mich., and Miss Lil lian Jones of Columbia. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beane have re turned from Macon where they went to attend the funeral of Mr. Hubert Duckworth. Mrs. Duckworth’s Augus ta friends will be interested to learn that her father, Mr. John Haines, of Baltimore, will be with her for the winter. —Judge J. B. Burnsides,one of Thomson’s well known and prosperous citizens, spent Saturday in the city the guest of Dr. Percy Danforth. , —Miss Lucy Wright has returned home from Shorter College to spend tli© holidays with her parents. —Miss Anita Brenner, who has been visiting in Selma, Ala., has returned home. —Mrs. M. Rice is visiting Mrs. J. N. Malone in Atlanta. —Mrs. H. D. Chapman and her three pretty little daughters are down from Sparta for the holidays, which they will spend with Mrs. A. D. Rogers, Mrs. Chapman’s mother, at 427 Walker street. Mrs. W. F. Goodrich, of Greenville, S. C., arrived last night to spend the holidays with her sisters, Mrs. Walter Matthews and Miss FVelda Speth.
