FRENCH OFFICIAL ______ Paris, 2:45 p. m. —The French of ficial report refers very briefly this afternoon to the military situation northeast of Hoissons. It says the Germans yesterday occupied the vil lage of Ht Paul, close to Hoissons but | the French immediately drove them out. , With the exception of the customary artillery exchanges, a spirited infan try encounter in the Vosges in which the French claim voctory, and a suc cessful infantry charge near Arras, thjs afternoon's report contains little that is new. VIRGINIA PENITENTIARY ESCAPES ARE CAPTURED Richmond, Va.—Harry Hamilton, forger, and K. N. 7'anley, highway robber, who with Siler Adkins and Allen Burton, murderers, escaped from the penitentiary here Monday night were captured today at Coleman’s Mill, thirty miles north of Richmond, by .I A. Hanford, a farmer, armed with a shotgun. When they asked Hanford for food and a bed he recog nized them from newspaper pictures and notified the authorities. Han ford stood guard with his shotgun until Warden Wood arrived. The men were brought back to the penitentiary at midday. Each of the convicts will have five years added to his sentence for mis behavior. The farmer got SIOO cash for his exploit. COBB, WITH TWO SPORT WRITERS, COMING HERE Brunswick, Ga. Vice Admiral Nares had a brilliant rfireer in the British navy. He gain ed fame for his Arctic expedition in 1875 in which H M S. Alelt and H M. 4. Discovery took? j art. The expedi tion planted the British flag beyond latitude 83 north. As commander of H. M. S Chal lenger, Vice Admiral Nares made deep sea explorations around the w'orld.
