COLUMBIA, S. C.—By a vote of 45 to 41 the house of representatives Saturday accepted the senate's com promise on statewide prohibition, which means that the fight is over, local option having won to this ex tent. State-wide prohibition lasts only two weeks, from the first Tuesday in August. On the third Tuesday "wet'' counties will have elections, at which they may retain or repudiate dispen saries as they like, and the same time" dry” counties may, if they wish, vote dispensaries back in. ATLANTA, Ga. —Permission for a felony convict, of Georgia to hurry to the bedside of his dying wife in North Carolina and remain there to attend the funeral, was granted Sat urday afternoon by Governor Hoke Smith, who hlAiself offered to pay the convict's expenses and those of a guard accompanying him from the South Georgia camp and back again. But the governor’s offer, following close upon the heels of permission he telegraphed to the convict warden I at .lakln comp, who arrived too late for acceptance. The lessees who have | rented the man from the state, the Flowers Lumber company, had them selves made arrangements to pay the expenses of the whole trip, anticipat ing that the governor would extend the required permission as soon at, he knew the facts W.
