NEW YORK. —George Bernard, a well know n Australian sporting man, who has just arrived in London, tells a remarkable story about the Burns- Johnson fight. He say* that before the mill began Johnson and his manager, Sam Fitz patrick, received an offer of $12,000 in cash to throw the fight to Burns, but that they turned the proposition down cold. Bernurd also states that when Johnson and Fitzpatrick arrive in this country, in about ten days, they will corroborate his assertions. He declares further that • Johnson had Burns beaten l n the first round, but that the big negro evidently al lowed hlg opponent to stay because a quick ending would have spoiled the moving pictures of the mill. According to Bernard, the gross re ceipts of the Burns-Johnson fight were not more tha n *65.000, instead of *130,000. as reported some time ago; also that the Burns-Squires fight, at Sydney, drew a *15,000 gate, not one of *60,000. Burns, by the way. stated j*st after his crushing defeat that he would never return to America. He Is in Australia, but may go to England soon. MRS. M.
