Augusta May Be The
Next City Visited By A
Tornado or Cyclone.
We take this opportunity of suggesting
four placing a Tornado policy on your
Residence. The cost of five years will
be exceedingly small; not averaging $1.60
a year per thousand.
We call your attention to the fact that
this class of Insurance is as necessary as
fire Insurance, and you will find that all
large Manufacturing rißks, private resi
dence®, chwches and schools are fully
covered by Cyclone insurance. We have
several hundred policies in Augusta, and
have already paid over $6,000.00 in losses
in the city, and SIOO,OOO in the state.
If at any tkne you should desire to
borrow money on your property, a Cy
olone policy will be an additional secu
rity. Many of the Loan and Trust Com
panies are requiring this kind of insur
ance as extra protection.
No doubt you read the newspapers, if
so, you • could not have failed to notice
tTte daily occurrence of Cyclones and
Tornadoes in nearly all the cities of the
South. whole towns have been laid
waAte and savings of a life time invest
ed in houses, swept away. So many
losses of this kind have happened re
eeirtly in the South that the papers all
over the country have written editorials
on the necessity of property owners pro
tecting themselves against such disas
ters. SKorms are more frequent in our
section during the months between Feb
ruary and November.
We will be very glad to hear from you
at once, and it will be our pleasure to
quote you rates for three or five year
contracts for any amount ranging from
$600.00 to $260,000.00.
Yours very truly,

BOOSTERS’ NOVEL
ADVERTISING
PUN
At the regular semi-monthly meet
ing of the Booster’s Club, which will
be held Thursday night at the Cham
ber of Commerce, Mr. R. Roy Goodwin
will lay before those present a plan
whereby he thinks Augusta merchants
can advertise their goods in neighbor
ing towns and cities to a better ad
vantage than ever before.
Mr. Goodwin’s plan is altogether
new and very unique. Briefly stated,
it as follow's: A number of merchants,
the more the better, band together; a
special car is chartered, for the use
of these merchants; on a stated day
these merchants board the car, each
one carrying samples and advertising
matter of his line of goods; a journey
is made along one of the lines of
railroad entering Augusta, taking in
all important towns; at these places
the car stops, the merchants disem
bark, display their samples, distribute
advertising matter, and become ac
quainted with as many people as their
time allows. On the car is to be car
ried a brass band. Several trips are
to be taken in this manner.
The idea is thoroughly in keeping
with the progressive spirit of the
Boosters, and they will doubtless en
dorse the plan. Routine matters will
occupy the attention of the Boosters
for a while, and new business will
be brought up. One of the commit
tees now at work, from whom a re
port is expected, is that appointed to
adopt a “Booster Button,” and pur
chase a supply of the same.
AN ACCOMMODATING CLERK.
She sailed Into the telegraph office
and rapped on the counter. The clerk
remembered that she had been there
about ten minutes before as he came
forward to meet her. He wondered what
she wanted this time.
“Oh," she said, “let me have the tele
gTam I wrote just now; I forgot some
thing very important. I wanted to un
derscore ‘perfectly lovely - in acknowl
edging the receipt of that bracelet. Will
it cost anything extra.?”
"No, ma’am,” said the clerk, as ho
handed her the message.
The young lady drew two heavy lines
beneath the words and said;
"It's awfully good of you to let me
do that. It will please Charley so much.”
"Don’t mention it,” said the clerk. ’Ur
you would like it, I will put a few drops
of violet extract on the telegram at the
same rates."
"Oh, thank you, sir. You don’t know
how much I would appreciate it. I’m
going to send all my telegrams through
this office, you are so obliging.”
And the smile she gave him would
have done anyone good, with the pos
sible exception of Charley.—Exchange.
EDITING TO PLEASE.
Nobody - outside the journalistic pro
fession has any idea how difficult it is
for an editor to pleaso some of uls
patrons. For instance, referring to a
public man's reputation for carelesness
In the matter of hi* toilet, a paper an
nounced ;
"Mr. Maguire will wash himself before
he assumes the offioe of town clerk."
This made Maguire furious and he de
manded a retraction, which appeared
thus:
"Mr. Maguire requests us to deny that
he will wash himself before he as
sumes the office of town clerk."
Oddly enough, this only enraged Ma
guire the more.—Exchange.

FIRST PRACTICE’
GAME ONMARCH 20
Manager Castro and Secretary Farr
visited the baseball grounds together
Thursday morning and made a criti
cal inspection of them. The grounds
were found to be in excellent shape.
These gentlemen also completed ar
rangements for the first practice game
of the season, between the Doves and
the Augusta team, for Saturday,
March 20.
The Doves got early and prac
ticed pitching and batting atjtl beating
out bunts. The men are limbering-up
finely, and Manager Bowerman is
pleased with their progress.
Eva Ray at the Superba.
Miss Ray announces that on Friday
she will give tw r o matinees for ladies
only, commencing at 3p. m. At these
matinees no gentlemen will be admit
ted. This is done in order to give
the ladies a chance to ask questions
of a private nature.
Great crowds are attending every
performance at the Superba this week,
and the mysterious work of Miss Ray
simply has the town talking. Her
work in the cabinet is perplexing to
the onlooker, to say the least of it.
Even the committeeman who goes into
the cabinet with her, to he initiated
into the Oriental Order Of Funmakers,
emerges chagrined and bewildered.
Miss Ray’s work as a edairvoyant
is of the highest order, and she is
making converts daily. She answers
questions and locates lost and stolen
articles with a startling degree of ex
actitude. Every mail brings hundreds
of letters from Augusta people ask
ing for information and aid in finding
articles or friends, as well as advice
in business matters.
Miss Florence Arnold is still very
pleasing in her song selections. Her
singing is very delightful, and she
never fails to get large applause. She
will change her songs completely to
day.
