THERE’S A REASON WHY YOU SHOULD

The "Dulld Now*' campaign of The Herald Is making good every day
for the simple fact, "There'* a Reason.” Augusta Is growing and the
city that grow* must build to take care of th" growth of the town.
The dignlflcant fart stands out that there is hardly a vacant store

expressions from individual merchants and business men With a good

One of the best investments that you can make Is In well bought
and well built Augusta real estate and this fact is not only being
reeogj.ued by our own people, but foreign investors and buyers and

The money markets of the Has' are looking for Southern invest

MR. HARMAN SAYS, “BUILD
NOW,” AND TAKES HIS
OWN MEDICINE
“Build now” is the slogan of every
citizen who Is either directly or in
directly interested In Augusta real os
fate. Not only may the real estate
brokers be quoted without exception
us strongly emphasizing the advan
tages and economy of the opportunity
now presenting Itself by reason of al
most unprecedented decline In price
of nearly every building material, but
the builders supply dealers declare
I hut such a chance to save money
by building while the present condi
tions obtain may never present it«e]f
again In yours.
"Sometime ago I built a house for
myself," said Mr. C. B. Harman, man
ager of tile Augusta Lumber company
yesterday, "and the fact that 1 regard
the present condition of the market as
a most favorable opportunity to save
money should convince any prospec
tive builder that Is behooves him him
to catch prices at low tide.”
Mr. Harman declared that In his
opinion prices on building material
would be from 15 to 20 per cent high
er In six months than they are now.
Six months ago they were that much
higher than prevailing quotations, and
u readjustment of conditions influ
encing the builders supply market
that will Inevitably take place within
a comparatively short time Is bound
to boost prices.
"A few months ago the western and
northwestern demand for lumber,
sush, dors, blinds and other articles
of building material fell off,” Mr. Har
man continued. “Most of the South
ern and Southeastern mills ship a
major portiok of their product to those
markuts. S* when that business suf
fered a decline, the only thing left
was to increase business nearer home.
And to build up a business nearer
homo, every iimnufacturnr cut hts
prices at least 15 per cent. Contrary
to expectations, only a very few mills
cut down their output. The result
Is all In favor of the purchaser, but
those conditions will not prevail much
longer, for It will only be a matter of
u few months before manufacturers
turn th»dr attention again to a mar
ket further away from home."
Mr. Harman said that while there
has been an Increase In building activ
ity of late, the opportunities now pre
senting themselves are not realized as
generally as they ought to be.
