gusta, will be held on July 7, 1909
Polls will be opened at 7 a. m. and
close at 5 p. m., city time. All
candidates for members of Coun
cil submitting themselves to the
White Primary, shall file with H.
W. Shaw, Chairman of Sub-Commit

ments that they will abide by the
results of the White Primary, and
will conform to the rules govern

The requisite qualifications of per

dents of the 10th Congressional dis
trict, and must not be under 17 or
over 22 years of age at the time of
admission, and not less than 5 feet
and 4 Inches at the age of 17, or less
than 5 feet and 5 Inches In height at

BEAUFORT. N. C.—One of the
worst hail‘storms ever known in this
county occurred Tuesday afternoon in
the Harlow Creek section. Fields
were flooded and crops damaged by

LOOKOUTS BEAT
COLUMBIA TWICE
CHATTANOOGA—The locals took
both games of a double-header from
Columbia Tuesday, but they had t®
play and hit some to turn the trick.
In the first game the Palmettos led
off with five runs in four innings, and
held back the Lookouts until the
ninth, when they broke over and tied
the score. It went five more innings
then until Meek scored Johnson with
a drive over the fence.
The second game lasted only five
innings. Meek’s home run in tne
third inning netted two tallies, and
Columbia could never score.

TENNIS CUPS ARE
BEING EXHIBITED
The cups to be awarded in the big
city tennis tournament s-cehduled
for the latter part of at
the Lakeside club are now on display
at Mr, L. J. Schaul's window.
They are all of silver, being very
beautiful trophies, handsomely em
bellished, and engraved. There are
five in all, one for men's singles, an
other for men's doubles, one for mix
ed doubles, one for ladies’ singles,
and one for ladies' doubles.
THREE FIREMEN INJURED.
DETROIT—The plants of the Pen
insular Milled Screw and Michigan
Stamping companies were burned

were seriously injured. The lost* is a
