THE STOCK MARKET
NEW YORK. Opening prices of
stocks following an earlier decline in
eth London market and dealings were
on a large scale.
A rapid break of 3 1-4 in Western
Maryland had a disturbing effect on
the market for a while, but when
support showed for Harriman stocks
and Reading, combined with some in
quiry for local traction stocks, prices
began to move up. At 11 o’clock
the market was seliing off and some
stocks were quoted at the lowest of
the hour.
The weakness of. Union Paclfis
stocks and Amalgamated Copper af
fected the whole list in sympathy.
Bonds were steady.

NEW REVENUE CUTTER.
SAVANNAH, Ga. —The handsome
new government revenue cutter Yaru
acraw has been the mecca for one
half Savannah today. The new ves
sel has been at anchor in the Savan
nah river since her arrival yesterday
and this morning for two hours and
this afternoon for two hours it was
opened to inspection of the public.
The officers held a reception on board
during this time and thousands of
people went to see the new craft. The
boatmen on the river did a land of
fice business if such a business can
be done on the broad surface of a
busy river. The Yamacraw will not
remain in her home port. Yester-.
day on board the cutter there was
drunk a silent toast to the memory
of Rufus E. Lester who as congress
man from this district secured the
appropriation for the building of the
cutter.
