| DIED THUD
Passed Away in the Fifty-
Eighth Year of His Life
After a Long Illness. \
The death 1b announced, in the fifty
! eighth year of hi» age, of Or. Edward
C. Goodrich, which occurred last night
|at il o'clock, at the home of his
j brother, Mr. Charles G. Goodrich, on
the Hill, with whom he and Mrs.
Goodrich have made their home foi
I the past several months. buneral ar
rangements will be announced later.
Genuine, universal and most sincere
| will be the grief and sorrow felt at
I the above announcement, for there
ras not in Augusta a person who
new and did not love Dr. Goodrich.
| For many years Or. Goodrich has
I been one of Augusta’s best known
I and most skilled physicians, but for
the past six years has been identified
with the board of hea>.h, as secre
tary, giving most, of his time up to
J the work which he did so capably
! and so well.
i For the past several months he had
been in tailing heatih, confined to
! his home, where he was given ever*
attention that medical skill and fov
i lag thought could suggest. A month
i ago he grew worse, yet none appre
! bended that the end was so near, and
! last night his life went, out as quiet
j)y as a tired child falls asleep. His
j death was as his life, gentle, quiet
I and peaceful.
Dr. Goodrich was a graduate of
the Medical College of the University
of Georgia, with a post graduate
I course in Europe. He personally was
a man of delightful charm, a man
who carried soothing in his manner
and healing in his touch. The sick
and sorrowful of Augusta will miss
his kindly ministrations.
I)r. Goodrich is survived by his
wife, who was formerly Miss Lillie
Platt: live brothers, Messrs. Ches.
<»., William J., Geo. X 5., Lewis F., and
Herfry C. Goodrich, and one sister,
Mrs. Geo. W. Walker.

AT LAST
In her chi|dhood the was sad, herraus# !
she felt that no one understood her.
In her girlhood she was alone—no.
body itemed to understand.
Then she became a woman, and she
hoped that the man would understand.
But he didn’t. All he knew was that
he wanted to make her happy. So, ot
course he couldn’t.
At last she inet someone who tinder
stood. He was a musician who played
the violin two dollars' worth In a forty
cent table d’hote where the water was

I He told her she was as beautiful as

MR. BIEILEF FELL
FROM THIRD STORE
Tall Was Broken By Sign,
But He is Badly Injured.
Mr. Arthur Bleakley, the well
known merchant, fell from the third
story window of his apartments over
his store at 854 Broad street Friday
morning at 1 o’clock, and sustained
severe injuries. He was carried to
the Margaret Wright Hospital, where
he is being given the best of atten
tion, and hopes are entertained that
his injuries will be but temporary.
Mr. Bleaklev’s right leg was broken
in two places, an J his body was
severely bruised. Tt is feared that
he is internally injured, but this can
not be determined at once. Mr.
Bleakley might have been even more
severely injured than he was had not
the force of his tall been broken by
the sign of his store which he struck
on his descent.
Mr. Bleakley’s fall Was noticed at
once by people on the street as well
as by Mrs. Bleakley, who was in an
adjoining room and saw him walk
out of the window. To those who
hurried to his assistance from the
street, Mr. Bleakley whs able to tell
his name, and complain that his In
juries pained him terribly. Hurried
attempts were made ’to get medical
aid, but the late hour of the night at
which the accident happened, caused
this to be more difficult than was

Ambulance Called.
A physician was finally secured and
an ambulance gotten which carried
the injured gentleman to the Margaret
Wright hospital.
Some criticism was expressed at
the delay of the ambulance in re
sponding, and it was s’cated that It
was forty minutes before it arrived.
The hospital authorities when asked
about it made the statement, through
the senior interne, Dr. Freeman, that
the first the hospital knew of the ac
cident was when some men called at
the hospital and asked leave to use
the telephone to call a doctor. This
'they did, say the hospital people, but
made no request for the ambulance.
Later they say a telephone call came
in for the ambulance, and it was sent,
arriving at Mr. Bleakley’s place with
ni fifteen minutes after the call was
received.
How the Accident Happened.
The children had given an enter
tainment at the house during the
night and Mr. Bleakley had retired at
midnight, going upstairs from the sec
ond floor with the little girls. He
was asleep when Mrs. Bleakley pass
ed through his room half an hour

at the foot of the bed, evidently seek-

It is believed that he heard some
