The petition of C. T. Walker, Jerry
Jones, A. M. Sherrill, W. H. Ellis, T.
J. Walker, J. M. Whitehead, G. S.
Burruss, Anderson Fendall, H. C.
Young and Granville Harrison, all of
said county shows:
1. Petitioners desire a charter for
a corporation to be known as “The
People’s Department Store,” with its
principal place of business in said
county of Richmond, and the life of
said charter to continue for the period
of twenty years, with the privilege of
renewal thereafter.
2. The objects of their association !
and the business they propose to |
carry on are: The owning and con
ducting of a general merchandise \
business, embracing groceries, dry
goods, shoes, millinery, clothing, sta
tionery, crockery, furniture and also j
any other line of articles or goods us
ually kept in a first class department
store.
3. The amount of capital stock to :
be employed and to be actually paid
in is to be Five Thousand ($5,000) ;
dollars, in shares of Five ($5.00) Dol
lars each i par value, with the power
of fixing said capital stock at any
time at any sum not exceeding Fifty
Thousand ($50,000) Dollars; tha stock
holders are not to be liable beyond
the amount of stock subscribed for
by each, and the subscriptions or
any part thereof, are to be paid in
cash, or In property as an equivalent.
4. Petitioners desire the power to
issue stock, both Common and Pre
ferred; to mortgage, bond or other
wise encumber the corporate proper,
ty; and to have ail such general and
particular powers as are usually con
ferred on other private corporations
and are not inconsistent with the
laws of the land..
And petitioners pray for an order
granting the application as provided
by law.
