COUNTY BOARD MET
THURSDAY MORNING
Paid Subscription to The
Chronicle. Reducing Ex
penses By Placing Tele
phones On Duplex Lines.
The amount claimed by The Augus
ta Chronicle as owing to them by the
county for a year's subscription for a
paper received by Miss Hall, the
nurse, at the Tuberculosis hospital
will be paid, not by the county, how
ever, but by the commissioners per
sonally.
At the special meeting held Thurs
day morning Mr. Pope, one of the
commissioners stated that he under
stood that the bill was declared Ille
gal by the commission, but as ho
thought for certain reasons that It
should be paid he made a motion that
the commissioners as Individuals
should divide the amount pro rata
from their personal means and get a
receipt from the county. This motion
was adopted unanimously and Clerk
Gardiner was Instructed to collect
from each of the five commissioners
a proportionate amount.
Following this Mr. Pope explained
to the commission how a large
amount of telephone rents had been
saved to the county by reducing the
number of phones and placing various
phones on duplex lines. In this way
the rent of County Home phones alone
had been reduced from $134 to *73 per
year.
