STRUM AUTO
Daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
W. H. O’Dowd Run Over
By Machine Owned By
George A. Mosher, of
Troy, N. Y.
Coming into the city from the home
of her father in Summerville to the
residence of her uncle, Mr. J. L
O’Dowd, 1341 Broad street, Miss Marie
O’Dowd, the fifteen year old daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. O'Dowd,
had just alighted from Summerville
car, No. 48, on the corner of McKinne
and Broad streets, where she was
painfully hurt by being run over by
an automobile, owned and driven by
Mr. George A. Mosher, of Troy, New'
York, a winter resident of Auguste,
who Is renting a cottage from Mr
Fred Lackman.
The accident happened at about
4:30 o’clock.
Miss O’Dowd was alighting from an
incoming Summerville car behind
which the Mosher machine had Peer
running. As the car slowed up Mr.
Mosher turned out, but a negro in a
wagon and a boy on a bicycle coming
in the opposite direction forced him to
put on brakes and get around in the
other direction to avoid a collision. It
was, fortunately just as the machine
was comijig to a stop that it struck
Miss O’Dowd, who fell backward. She
is positive the front wheel passed
over her, but aside from a bruise on
the back of her head and one on the
chest there is no evidence that she
was more than brushed by the wheel.
The machine's occupants state they
felt no jar and do not think the wheel
ran over the young lady. The ma
chine stopped before the rear wheel
reached her. She was immediately re
moved to the nearby residence of Dr.
J- B. Morgan, where she was given
medical attention and later carried to
the home of her uncle Mr. J. L.
O’Dowd, 1341 Broad street.
Drs. Morgan and W. A. Mulherin,
were the attending physicians.
A formal charge of reckless driving
was made against Mr. Mosher who
was taken to the barracks by Officer
Quarles and was after released on a
thousand dollar bond furnished by
Mr. Fred Lackman for appearance
before the recorder Jan. 15.
This morning Miss O’Dowd is rest
ing easily. Attending physicians
state that it will be twenty-four
hours, at least, before it can be defi
nitely whether or not she is internally
Injured, but at present no unfavorable
symptoms have developed.

Threaten Death to Anti-
Vardaman Men Unless
They Vote For Vardanian
For Senator.
JACKSON, Miss.—Letters have
been received by anti-Vardaman men
in the legislature, threatening death
unless they vote for Vardanian for
senator.
More substantial gains for Varda
nian in the senatorial contest when
the democratic caucus convenes Tues
day night are predicted by his follow
ers.
The gain of four votes Monday
night has greatly encouraged the
Vardanian following, and they declare
nothing can now prevent his nomina
tion when the deadlock is broken.
It is not expected, however, that the
nomination will take place Tuesday
night. The supporters of Alexander,
Percy, Byrd, Kyle, Anderson and
Crttz are holding together, and as
sert that the Vardanian gain last
night was fully expected, attributing
it to belated supporters of the former
governor who reached the city during
the day. %
Opposing candidates are plainly dis
appointed, however, when the rumor
ed dissension in the Vardaman ranks
failed to assert Itself In the balloting.
Unless the Vardanian contingents
succeed in framing up a stampede
Tuesday night it is the general be
lief that the deadlock will continue
until the close of the week, when an
effort will be made to consolidate the
opposition or allow the contest to
go into the legislature proper fr set
tiemen in open ballot, dropping the
hindmost candidate on each succeed
ing vote.

PEOPLE OFTEN ASK US
WHAT MAKES OUR BUSI
NESS GROW SO RAPIDLY
AND HOW WE HAVE MAN
AGED TO RETAIN OUR CUS
TOMERS FOR YEARS, AS
FRIENDS.
HERE’S THE ANSWER.
First: By putting into our
work the result of thirty years
experience and careful study.
Second: By selling only
the best material bearing the
maker's name and guarantee,
and lastly, by being contented
with a fair profit on every sale
and treating all customers
alike.
If this looks right to you, why
not get in touch with us.
