Prosperous Augusta Greek Weds
Sweetheart From Old Country
Gus Antanakos, Formerly of Sparta, Greece, Was Married in
Augusta to Miss Ourinia Diamouki, Who Came Over Here
to Join Him.
In the presence of a large number
of their fellow countrymen and a few
of their country women and with a
few Americans also on hand, Mr. Gus
Antanakos, of 1698 Broad street, Au
gusta, but originally of Sparta,
Greece, wan married to Miss Ourinia
Diamouki, of Volo, Greece, on Thurs
day night last. The ceremony was
performed at the hall on the
second floor of the northwest corner
of Ellis and Seventh strets. Rev.
Father Arsenics David, of the Greek
Catholic church in Savannah, per
formed the ceremony and it was the
second Greek wedding that has ever
occurred in Augusta.
The father of the bride brought her
to Augusta from their far-away home
to be married to Antanakos. The
couple received the hearty congratu

bers of the local Greek colony, but
also from many American friends of
the groom.
The ceremony was very interesting
and lasted about half an hour. The
bride and the groom each wore a band

BE TREATED BY CHOIR
The Quartette Choir of the First
Presbyterian Church have arranged a
program of beautiful music for Sun
day morning. The numbers are:
1. —"I will extol Thee, O, God" by-
Costa.
2. —"The Sacrifices of God”, by Vin
cent.
3. —Soprano Solo, "In the Time of
Roses”, by Reiche.rd.
Mrs. T. Harry Garrett is organist
and director of the choir, which is
composed of Misseß Battle and Brown
and Messrs, Demonico and Luck.
Their singing this winter had been
very highly complimented by many
musical critics.

was started during Dr. Sevier’s pas

day school room with separate class j
rooms, library and rest rooms on the
msin floor; a large auditorium with
platform and club rooms for the hoys
and the girls on the top floor; and a
fully equipped nrymnartum and bowl

Dr. Sevier made the principal ad

crown of flowers during the cere
mony and the two crowns were joined
together by a ribbon. During the
ceremony the bride and groom ex
changed crowns, the ribbon all the
time binding the two together. Of
course, the ceremony was all in the
Greek language.
After it was finished rice was
thrown on the couple by the women
present. The father of the bride at
first seemed to resent the Idea of
rice being thrown for it is not a
custom in Greece. When it was ex
plained that rice throwing was an
American custom he was agreeable
to it.
There are now 125 Greeks in Au
gusta and seven or eight of the male
Greeks have their families with them.
Mr. Antanakos owns considerable
property here, is considered a good
