Life is too short to waste in crit¬ icising the actions of our neigh¬ bors. Turner is a good roan, and one whom all South Georgia delights to honor. Our School is increasing in numbers, and thte work is progress¬ ing nicely. Let your children enter school now and get started off regularly in their work. Why are the County board of education and the Woman's Club so silent on the matter of adding an industrial department to school? Someone speak out. We must get the matter before people if we expect their support in its establishment. Each successive day brightens the prospects of the coming State Fair at Savannah. Interest in city is awakening and citizens realize that Savannah’* reputation is at stake in making the Fair grand success. It is predicted that the Fair will mark an epoch in city’s progress. A Plea For Libraries. The country children of the average country homes have no literature to read except some old and stale«agricultural book and statistical volume sent zealously by the congressman, and perhaps a newspaper. When the children are sent to school they have no ad¬ vantages except those offered by the meager text books of the com¬ mon schools of this county. Every person that has had the advanta¬ ges of even a small library will admit that they received more cul¬ ture from it than from thecotnmon school course pursued in founding the elements of an education. The day has now arrived when we should look forward to social and moral trainiug as well as bus¬ iness qualifications. Fathers, Moth¬ ers, how can we have cultured children in our homes or schools unless we furnish the children with good literature? Just think how dangerous it is tc learn children to read and then not direct their reading into good channels. There is a great craze for dime Why? because the boys *nd are not supplied with books standard authors to read. They imitate tho character of the of the person they read after. think how baneful fora hoy to read the life of Jessie James other noted outlaws instead the biography of Washington, Lincoln or some other character that they might to something good if not and grand achievements. Does South Georgia or even W ayne County furnish her share cultured men for this state? lie answer no. Because they do not have the proper advantage of books in youth to inspire high ideals. Let us furnish our boy with a vol ume instead of a package of cig arettB. Stop and ask your self which is the most benefiicial, which will be an inspiration the book (well selected) or the cigar¬ ette. How many men of political or literary fame has Wayne coun¬ ty produced? Ask our Rep -1 resentives or state Senator to have a bill presented and passed at next session of the Georgia Leg islature authorizing the Board of Education to levy a small school tax to be used in placing a library in every country school. Then the children that are too poor to buy books would have the same chance with other child¬ ren for literary culture. At prss ent they throw Etones at birds for amusemeht or muddy some pond pass off a weary hour, not otherwise employed. Every, school should have a de¬ bating society established for the advancement of the pupils. The teachers eau do this if they will for the community where they teach. Perhaps they have not bad a course in oratory or elocution but they can organize a debating society, purchase soma books on the subjects to be discussed and learn with their pupils. Learn to express their thoughts as well as to teach their pupils to express what they have learned in or out of school in a and concise manner to an audience. How benefit does a pupil derive from formal study of language if cannot express his idea with it.
