And he is dead! Athwarts life span
He lived and died a manly man,
And from the mern'ry of his deeds
A tale of wonderous love proceeds!
And he is dead! Ah, stalwart friend,
To all in need thy life did lend
Great rays of hope to old and young,
By thousand are thy prai scs sulig!
And hois dead! His ' uial a 1 ■
And loyal heart unknown to guile,
Have ceased te cheer us on our way
And all of Georgia weeps to-dv.y!
And he is dead! The children stroll
Out midst the sorrow of their soul,
While up above the summer skies
Now weep, and nature all replies!
And he is dead! His, great work’s o’er,
He greets the angels on God’s shore—
His hand, his heart and life are stilled
His place in Georgia can’t be filled!
And he is dead! Our people weep,
God’s fairest augels guard his sleep,
lAbont his grave the summer sod
But smiles in pointing up to God!
