Mr, Dan W. Roberson of Scre
ven Was elected County Com¬
missioner on last Tuesday to suc¬
ceed the lamented John A. Ward
We congratulate the other com¬
missioners on their wise select¬
ion. Judge Roberson should in
deed appreciate his selection as
he had several worthy opponents.
Altogether we deem the se
ection a happy one for all part
les.
It was the pleasure of the Ed¬
itor to ride in an automobile'over
one of the nicest stretches of
road in Wayne County. This road
lies northwest of Jesup, and was
constructed under supervision of
Mr. Brack Westberry, It is clay¬
ed properly and to a good depth
and we congratulate the people.
The clay is the solution of our
sandy or other bad roads.
Now that our Board of County
Commissioners is reorganized we
hope soon to see Tmore of these
good roads. Gentlemen! experi¬
ment on about five miles of road
from Jesnp towards Gardi. Try
our theory of “claying the sand
and sanding the clay.”
The Jesup Lodge of Mason’s
in conjunction with the Screven
Lodge, and a few members from
Surrency Lodge, met at Bethel
{last Sunday, and held
a Masonic funeral service at the
grave of Mr. Jasper Poindexter
deceased. The funeral service
was very impressive and was
witnessed by an immense con
gregation, On account of the
large crowd, the Church had to
be abandoned, the funeral ser¬
mon being preached in the open
beneath spreading trees.
In addition to the Masons of
Jesup, quite a number from Je¬
sup went out in buggies and au¬
tomobiles. Mr. George Arm¬
strong 'acted as Master on the
occassion, land it goes without
saying, that he conducted the
service in his usual masterly way,

God has extended his band and
plucked from the family of Mr.
and Mrs. Carl Canedy, one of
their dear little babies. It is a
sad task indeed to write a few
lines to the memory of this dear
little baby a» it was the joy of
its fond parents.
Ne words can tell of the anguish
that death bring*. But how con¬
soling to know that mothers little
darling is in heaven while our
hearts cant help but feel sad.
let us bow in humble

their loss. It now has gained the
throne where the voice of
Barior will bless it in Heavan.
