If you want to borrow go to a money lender, The farmer can control the South if he will but use intelli¬ gent methods. In the Muncipal election last Saturday the “dark horse” spru¬ ng was like a yeast cake---not a bad second. The News is especially proud this week to present to the con¬ sideration of the voters of the County the names of two or our best citizens who aspire to the office of Sheriff, Mr. Elmer Gocmerfi p£Npreven and Mr. J S. Lee of m%r Jesup. In our opinion either of these gentlemen will fill the office with credit to themselves and those loyal friends who vote for them, The power of the supreme is absolute. From its deei there is no appeal. The Uni¬ ted State* is governed by this Court, consisting of nine solemn, looking eoporation judges who have greater power than any other wurt on earth. This court nulifies an act of Congress at will and substitutes an arbitrary deci¬ sion of its own, which has all the force rnd binding effect of a statuory enactment. Congress has become a useless appendage. This court is maintained by the people, and responsible to the peo pie. •That is why we have foolish legislation making it a penal for a person to write or circulate a check for loss than One dollar. Banker Hillyerof Atlanta is sanguineabout its be¬ ing law but it is law netherless. Two candidates have announc¬ ed this week for the primary ele¬ ction. Mr. Davis Dubberly of Screven and Mr. Geo. C. Hatc¬ her of the same hustling little town. Mr. Dubberly announces for the office of County Treasurer and Mr. Geo C. Hatcher for Tax Collector. Their respective announcements appear ir. another column. HcRae- HcCullers A wedding of interest took place on Wednesday evening the 6th of January at Wetumpta, Alabama, at the Methodist church. Miss Emma McCullers and Mr. Vernon Allen Me Ran of Jesup were the principals. Tno wedding i» the outcome of a pretty rom - ance of three years. And came as a Buprise to the friends of the groom, who is a senior member of the firm of McRae Bro’s drug¬ gists of this city. The bride is a charming young laby and the news wishes the bride and groom much happiness. Mr. aed Mrs. McRae will make their future home in this city. gWt). V- Littlefield Elected ▼ From Motd&y.s Sav. Press. By—A. R. w. .le*up, Ga. Jan. 3—The muniei pal election, which took place here New Year’s day resulted in :e election of the citizen ticket - follows: For Mayor 0. F. Lit uefield 4‘2, W. J. Broadhurst So, R. B. Hoops, 17 . Board of Alderman- Whaley 57 Knignt, 85 E. E. Wilkins, 51. Board of Education -Slover, 62, Price, 28 The platform of the Citizens ticket was for an economical and judicious administratioh. Very little interest was for manifested throughout the day, the election passing off as on? of the Quietest in this section in years. A “dark horse” was sprung on the eve of the election and the People's ticket, headed by W. J. Broad¬ hurst, could not gather enough force to make it possible for t hem to make much of a battle. Lyen>. who shot to death M. Fleming Smith two years ago at the Jesup Drug Company's store. The men were convicted in Wayne Sup¬ erior Court and were sentenced to life unprislonmcnt. The ruling of the Supreme Court, decides that the, rel >tion ship of one of the jurors and a party who contributed to the pros¬ ecution fund is sufficient grounds for a new trial. They at once made a motion for a new trial which was denied them by Judge Parker. The Sup¬ reme Court has now over-ruled the trial judge, and the convicted men will get a new trial. The jury was exhausted in and Wayne it will County Ire and the first change trta! necessary to the venue before trying the ease again. As yet it is not known just where the new trial well tak' place.
