Taft has set a good example for
Democracy, The discontented
member* of the Democratic party
should fall promptly in line, and
cut out the abuse.
Some men run for office that
they cannot fill and after elected
bjr orer-zealous friends, the peo¬
ple suffer for it. Qualification
should be the first thing to i n ves
tigate.
Wa not* that “Uncle” James
Freeman, has joined the staff of
the News-Banner of Baxley. Jim
is a veteran in the profession
and will help to improve the Ban¬
ner, under the guidance of Editor
Dave Parker.
The News is in no hurry to take
sides in a political contest j ust
at present. The contest is still
maty moons away ar.d we would
suggest to the candidates to go
slow. Wait until the grass com¬
mences to sprout again. N othing
can be gained by starting a lone
campaign.
We are publishing this week,
the formal announcement of Mr.
P. S. Price of Jesup for County
Treasurer of Wayne County. He
is a prominient business man of
this section and we do not hesitate
to say that he willundoubtly ma¬
ke the race an interesting one for
Treasurer of the County. To date
his only opponent is Mr. Davis
Pubberly of Ritch, Ga.
Mr. prospective candidate 1
Jf you want to run for office don’t
lock the stable door, after the
borsc is stolen,—and criticise us
if your announcement fails to ap¬
pear in print. The cash must ac¬
company all announcements. Ex¬
press money orders, Post Office
money orders, or certified cheque
will do— anything but 1. O. U.
postage stamps, and promises.

We think *his is a narrow view
to take of it. Judge Parker is a
worthy foe and could make th e
race an interesting one. Of course
•old Georgia is interested in B ran

In Tatlnal County a few days
ago, the little pistol got in its
sorrowing work again. Four little
tots were made fatherless, and a
wife bereaved of her husband.
Oh! the pity.
Clerk of Council Steel and
Marshall W. 11. Williams are
busy tliis week issuing executions
against delinquent tax payers who
have failed to pay taxes due to
the town of Jesup.
At the muncipal election held
in Odum on last Wednesday Jan.
19th the following officers were
elected for the cnsucing year,
Mayor N. L. Jones, Council man
Dr. J. T. Colvin, II. A. Crandle,
W. G. 6dum, J. I. Roberson and
J. H. Thompson.
Booker T. Washington the r.e
ro educator of his race in a spee¬
ch to an Atlanta audience some
nights ago said that, the shiftless
negro was a menace to his race
Yes he is right and now the doc¬
tors agreed at the hook worm con
-fcrence, that the hook worm was
imported by the negro from Africa
years ago so that it seems that
all troubles -*"W,
the of Hookers race
aro always with us in the South.
The News-Banner say s: “The
people down in Wayne County
aro talking'abput a county fair.”
Correct. The Wayne county News
launched the project some weeks
ago. We expect that the farmers
of Wayne will co-operate w ; th
the Board of Trade and with the
merchants and citizens to help
make it one of the best held in
tlio histoay of South Georgia’s
rapid progress. There is no gain¬
saying the fact that Wayne Coun¬
ty has some of the best farmers
and farms to bo found in along
drive in Wiregrass Georgia. \\ e
extend an invitation to our sister
county Appling to join us in
the county fair exhibit.
Now may be the time “for all
good men to come to aid of their
party” but it seems to us that
most of the “good” men over
the State, from the number of
candidates that we behold, want
the party to come to their aid and
elect them to some office. 11 seem
that the good citizens of Wayne
County J are a little slow this year
