As in other counties of the
state the new Georgia pension law
will add a great many to the pen¬
sion list in Wa.vne county. The
law passed by the last legislature
makes all old confederates eligible
for pensions. Heretofore it was
necessary for them to show tnat
they were indignent. The new
law in regard to pensions for
widows, gives a pension to all
widows who were married before
1870, whether ihey have been
married since or not.
It is very ea-y for some of
to imagine now we would
were vve in authoritv but a
many times it would prove quite
a different proposition if wo
so placed. And so it is that many
a man in public office is adversely
criticised when no doubt he is
erting himself to the fullest to
liis duty as he sees it. But
theories do not fill up the holes
sidewalks no matter at
door the blame for such
ions may be laid. It is quite
dent -particularly in rainy
ther—that certain streets
sidewalks in Jesup need
and wo hope the proper
ities will look into this matter
once.
In touchiug upon the
tance of good roaos, Judge Eon
yers in his charge to the Grand
jury at the opening of the present
s ssion of Wayne Superior court,
aid in effect that if the people ol
in immediate section would buiid
good highways it would be, the
means of getting a very large per
cent of the immigration • coming
southward. As pointed out by
J . Igu Conyers there is an influx
oi people, in the main industrious
farmers, to this portion seeking
conditions more suitable to their
calling and every inducement
| ,< flu red them to locate
