This 0 day of Sept 188(5. Lkos'Connali.y, Executor. EVENTS OF 1886 BY Mils. M. A. llovey. The year of 1886 has been oxo full of trials disasters and sad revers es of fortune. Many times it lias seemed as if the powers of earth and hell were combined to deal out mis ei v, death, and destiucllon by every possible means. New an! strange diseases have aiisen, winch baAL the skill of the most experienced physicians, and in a lew short hours, our dear friends are laid away liom our sight forever. Hundreds of people have left their homes iu the morning, buoyant with hope and happiness, confidently <x peciing to return, but ere the shad ows begun to lengthen they passed beyond the bonds of time. A coal mine disaster, a collision on the rail road or river, the cyclones, the lires, and earthquakes, all strike terror to the bravest and cause sorrow and snf*. feting alike, among the rich and poor Family dissensions also have arisen, sometimes from a misunderstood word, or a thoughtless act. which have been the sourse of unlimited sor sows, crime slid bloodshed. Husbands have been turned against their wives, and wives against their husbands, parents against their chil dren, and children against their par ents. Families have been broken up and scattered abroad, All these things must be, that the piophecv •nay lie fulfilled, but bow few there be of us that havethe moral courage and ebrictain fortitude io bear rip under such trials and say “Thy will be done” Instead of seeking to tetri* ve a lost fortune, give consolation to the afflict ed to be reconcilod with our families and friends, to restore the fallen to the paths of virtno and wisdom; too many of us would follow The advice of Job’s wife, “curse God and die.” L over S »le n O ii<* Ort 3rd 1886 RISING FAwN DOTS Every thing quiet since the election.
