A KILLING AT NASHVILLE,
TENNESSEE,
Thir morning, ‘March 11, Wil

son-in-law, Ed. 8, Wheat, at the
Merchants Exchange corner, oppo

was former United States Marshal
for the middle district of Tennes

The trouble rose from a disagree

The following is another account
of the traged vt Ex-United States

his fathersin=liw, ag e was in the
act of trossing College street in
front of the Merchants Exchange.
Spencer had followed Wheat for
more than two blocks. He called
to him once, antd the latter turned
his head, but did not stop or reply.
Speneer overtook him on the =trect |
erossing and fired the first and
falal shot into his back, the bullet
penettating his heart. Wheat fell
on hig back en the crossing in

shot, but never spoke, hnd died
almost instantly. The body was
immediately removed to an under

diet wag rendered in accordance
with the above iacts. It declared
that the murder was malicious and
unprovoked. After firing the se
cond shot Spencer made a remark
which was understood to be to the
effeet that Wheat Jad choked him.
Speneer was immediately taken
into cugtedy, and his pistol, o welf.
cockine Iniith & Wesson, with two
hartels discharged, and all others
loaded, was' taken from him by a
policeman, and he was committed
to jail nnder a beneh warfant. The
trouble ix ##d to have origittated
