We had the pleasure of meeting
Mr. John N, Kiker, the cour re,
porter of this eircuit, last woek.
Mr. W. W. Dean, living a few
miles cast of town, wore a vest to
town during court week that he
had on when he got his first pags—
just at the beginning of tho war.
He had the pass-port in his pocket,
and if wo remember right, it was
dated in 1861 or ’62. Mr. Deanal
-0 had on the shirt that he was mar
vied in nearly 80 yoars ago. Both
the vest and shirt are good yet,
Col. A.J. Mcßyride, of Atlanta,
together with his family, visited
his brother, J. M. Mcßride of this
place last Sunday. Mr. M. returned
home Monday, but his family re
mained until Thursday afternoon.
We learn that Mrs. Potty, wife
of our lamented citizen, John ¥.
Petty, died last Wednesday nighv.

: We, the Grand Jury, chosen and
‘sworn for the July term of Haralson Su
;])L‘l'i()l' Court, 1884, beg leave to make
the following presentmients .
We have, through our various com
mittees, jexaminegd the public bnildings
and regords of the county. :
We recommend that the blinds on the
court housa be replgeed or repaired and
hung on heavier hinges.
We Srecomumend that the fencing a.
ronnd the conrt howse square be painted
in g good, substantial manner,
We recommend that there be a goad,
substantial ivon grate placed in one of
the windows on the north side of the
jail, and also sash and glags in another
window.
We find the books of the Clerk Supe
rior Court kept in a good and hnsinesg
like manner. The amount of money re
ceivad by him since last eourt may be
found by reference to his report, which
is hereunto annexed.
We find the books and records of the
Ordinary’soffice kept in aneat and sube
stantial manner. The amount of mon
ey received from all sources since last
report may be found in his report,which
is hereunto annexed. b
We find the County Treasurer’s books
to_be kept in a clear and concise man

that the local law énacted for the bene

our representatives to have said loea!

‘the general school law of the state.
We have had before us the dockets of
the Justice of the Peack and Notary
lPub]ic and find theth chrréctly kept
with slight exéeptions,” =

appointed Notary Public for the 1225th
district, G. M. to fill the unexpirad
term of J. F. Petty, deceased.
We further recommend that the op.

Bride bridge, which ‘was Washed awsy
and lodged on the farm of il gore, Hoo
}per having erectedd bridge at his mill
for the accommodation of the public. ]
. We reczommend that the Tallapoosa
and Bawdon road be so altéred or chan
ged 50 as to cross the Ga. Pacific R. R.
at the first railroad crosging east of
Tallapoosa ; then to run on the cast side
of said railroad, a few rods from the rail
road right-of-way. then running south
and parallel with said railroad to where
the railrogd makes a curve to the cast,
then cross the railroad, so as get back
on the original road-bed, !
We find cn examination of records,
that the road com missioners failed to
make their report as directed by law,but
from information reccived from various
gourceg, we find the public roads 'to he
in good condition, with the exception of
the Buchaman and Rockmart road
thyough the 1143 d;ét}{ivt that part of road
where the road leaves the Draketown
road near the regidence of W, F- Black
stock, we recomennd he worked at the
ear.i-st convenience. We also find that
portion of the Tallapoosa and Carrollton
road running throngh the 1225 district,
G, M., to he in bad condition, and rec
omend that said read be put in good or
der st the earliest convenience, We also
recomend that the Buchanan and Tal
lapoosa road on the sonth-west side of
Beach creek, or that portion.of the new
road running around the spur of the
hill, be let out at privntc contract, and
the ordinary let the sampat the earliest
convenience,
- We recomend that Tilda Smith, pau
per, receive 25 dollars ipstead of 20 as
recomended by the grand jury of Jan.
term 1884, and the money be paid as rec
oomended by said jury. We alse recow
mend that Elisabeth MeDaniel be paid
25 dollars instead of 15 as recommended
by the grand jury of Jan. term 1884, and
the money paid-as recommended at said
term. We recommend that Sarah Free
man receive 25 dollars instead of 20 as
recommended hy grand jury of Jan. term
1884, and that the money be paid as rec
ommended at sgid term. We recom
mend that Wm. McDowell’s money be
paid to W, C, Mcßrayer instead of A, J.
McDowel, as recommended by the grand
jury at Jan, term 1884. We recommend
that Margaret Meaks receive 20 dollars
and the money be paid to L. M, Speight
ag guardian. Wo recommend that the
belance of the paupers stand as vecom
mended by the last grand jury at Jan.
term 1884, We recommend that Noah
Rice be put on the pauper list, andbe al
lowed 20 dollars, and that said amount
be paid to John Rice.
We recomend the jurors and bailiffs he
paid one do'lar and fifty cents a day. |
We recomend that there be allowed 10
dollars for to plank the bridge at Crum
ly’s mill near Draketown. We also rec
ommend that 20 dollars ba® allowed to
make a ford at the Dunean ford on Thom
gon creek. s
We recommend that there be appro
priated 25 dollarsto aid in building a
bridge on the Cedartown and Bowdon
road across Big erecks
We recommend that the ordinaty beal
