The spring chicken is almost ripe and a few are being pulled. Buchanan can show more new dwellings than most towns her size. Judge W. C. Adamson, of Car rollton, was in Buchanan this week. .Mr. G. R. Hutchens, of Talla poosa, gave us a pleasant call Tues= day. Our baseball boys will cross bats with the Cedartown club in the near future. Mr. J. W. Oglesby returned this week from a trip to Kingston and Chattanooga. Mr. H. N. Stewart has moved into his mew residence, which is very handsome. There was a slight earthquake felt here on Wednesday night be tween 9 and 10 o’clock. The Banner this week is hardly up to the standard, owing to our absence for several days. The yield of honey this season is much larger than usual, which is largely due to the dry spring. Mr. Strickland, of the enterpris ing firm of Watson & Strickland, at Tallapoosa, was here on Tuesday. The refreshing rains have been gladly welcomed, and have revived the hearts of many, as well as all vegetation. As usnal on the first Tuesday, a good many people were in town, which lends quite a business air to Buchanan. Dr. R. B. Hutcheson, of Drake town, one of the leading physicians of western Georgia, gave us a pleas ant call Tuesday. Prof. West and Miss Lizzie Anthony, the teach ers, have given entire satisfaction, and had a successful school. Next session will open July Ist. There were no public sales here last Tuesday, setilement or dispo sition of some kind having been made of all the property advertised for sale by the sheriff. There will be a Sunday School Celebration at Felton on Saturday before the first Sanday in July. A large crowd will be present, and a grand time is expected. There were a humber of new names enroiled on our subscription list Tuesday, and many others ex pressed themselwes as being highly pleased with the BaNneg. Our observation on ounr recent trip to Troup eounty showed that the crops in Haralson will compare favorably with'thusé of any of the half dozen counties {’uthrough which we passed. : The spring term* of Bucharan Academy closed law Friday, after a very successful se¥sion under the skillful managemens of Prof. A. G. Upshur. The next session will be gin the first Monday in July. Mr. Lassetter, our clever tax re ceiver, requests us to say that he has completed his last round, but will be in Buchanan for a week or ten days at work on his books, and all who have not made returns may do so vet if they will coME AT ONCE. Attend to this matter now and it will save being double taxed. The singing at Felton last Sun day was a grand success. There was a large gathering, and the mu sic was exceptionally good. At noon dinner was spread in abun dance, and no one was slighted. Everybody enjoyed themselves, and the day will not soon be forgotten. Buchanan was largely represented. Last Thursday we received a tel egram calling us to LaGrange. 1t was indeed a sad call, and was en tirely unexpected. It announced the death of H. W. Haralson, father of the writer. While at the dinner L table on Thursday he was stricken with paralysis of the heart, and died immediately, never speaking after stricken. We reached La- Grange just in time to hear the funeral and witness the laying te rest his mortal frame. TFather was a good, christian man, kind and generous to all. His mortality is changed to immortality, and he is now with the saints in glory, free from the cares and adversities of earthly life. It is indeed hard for us to give him up, but the ways of God are right and, merciful, and He bas scen fit to call him toa more glorious life. .~ | Those who own orehards should ake arrangements to.can and | pre e et eke % fl;fi*fm‘fi:fif’%%’“%*e (WIS Prov o DTV Ve N ‘E“"}’ ‘fi?fi We had a frost on June Ist. Ayer’s Sarsaparilla has completely restored her health, and her eyes are as well as ever, with not a trace of serofula in her sys tem.”’—G. King, Killingly, Coun. OAK HILL. To-day is eloudy and raining o little. Not mueh news now, only ceneral Green has almost taken charge of some of the cotton; therefore grass is King and not cotton. But little corn is planted on some farms here, What a great mistake. Who can eat cotton? ‘No deaths now to pen; not much sick ness around Qak Hill, We hear of some sickness at Bremen, mostly fever and flux. Baggett, Bullard & Co. are doing a fine business running two saw mills near the C. R. &C. road. Success to all such enterprising men. Bremen ezpects to have a Sabbath School celebration on Saturday before the fourth Sunday in July. we learn the young people will have an all-day singing at Union Hill the fifth Sunday in this month. Come and bring your dinners, and let’s have a nice time. We hope our farmers will learn to live at home ®¥nd keep out of debt. Make yonr own guano, and have your corn criby and meat house at home. NANNIE NEAL. WHAT ON EARTH Is the reason people will not, can not, or do not see any difference in cheap nostrums put up by Cheap John houses or irresponsible parties at enormous profits, rather than take a medicine of worldwide rep utation and one that is giving uni versal satisfaction at equal price? No medicine in the world is giving such unparalleled satisfaction for purifying the blood as Beggs’ Blood Purifier & Bloed Maker, and every bottle that does not do its work will cost you nothing. Summerville & Co., druggists, Buchanan, Ga., and Bishop & Hearn, Waco, Ga. Fifty years ago (1839) the first wheat was shipped from Chicago, amounting to seventy-eight bushels. The following are some of the sayings of Harry Tracy, of Missis sippi, the Sam Jones of the Alli ance: “The trouble with you fellows is that, about 25 per cent. of you have got your lightning rod out for fear you’ll be struck with a swindle. “A man with prejudice in his head has no room for anything else. “Farmers have kept their brains idle and tongue running long en ough.
