Siri—There being a vacancy in
the Naval Academy from the dis
triet represented by you in Congress
you are desired to recommend a
candidate for appointment. He
must not be under fifteen nor over
twenty years of age when examined
for admission, and an actual resi
dent of your Congressional district.
The recommendation must be made
prior to the first of July next, as af
ter that date it by law becomes the
duty of the Secretary of the Navy
to fill the vacancy. Accepted can
didates will be required to report
for examination at the Naval Acad
emy on September 2nd, next.
