Roberts, of Cedar town, died last week. The grape crop this season prom ises to be very large. The BANNER is increasing both in pepularity and circulation. Cedartown has by a popular ma jority voted:for water-works. Mr. D. B. Head spent a day or two in Carrollton this week. Ripe peaches and June apples are now a luxury with some of our people. Tho infant child of Mr. G. W. Sanders, near Buchanan, died Monday night. - Our correspondents have sent us some good letters this week, full of newsy items. Miss Eva Dennis is visiting rel atives in Coweta county, where.she will spend some time. Dr. Summerville, Col. W. P. Robinson, and Mr. Gus Lee, went up to Felton Wednesday- Mr. A. V. Howe, an enterpris ing citizen of Tallapoosa, gave us a pleasant call Wednesday. Mr. Chauncey, depot agent at Felton, has been misplaced and Mr. Jim Williams is now in charge. Hot water is said to cure nervous ness. So will cold water, if youn stay at the bottom of it long enough. It may be you. Try it. - Miss Ola Atkinson, a charming young lady of Louisiana, has been spending several days in Buchanan : ' : with her aunt, Mrs. R. K. Loveless. ~ Mr. S. G. Aldridge has sent us some very fine specimens of English peas. Also one small peachtree prong containing 40 peaches. Both are fine «pecimens of what Haral son soil will do. No weekly paper in the state has ever had the nerve to offer subserib ers such inducements as we are now offering, We want 5,000 sub scribers, and we intend to have them as soon as possible. Prof. West’s school spread a fine dinner in the grove just back of the school building last Friday, the closing day of the. spring sessiog. We had' the pleasure of enjoying the good things with the children and a few invited guests. What could be accomplished in Buchanan within the next twelve months towards building up the place if the citizens would unite on all questions of public enterprise, is almost beyond conception. What wiLL be accomplished otherwise, is eastly determined. Our drawing will take place on August 17th whether we get 5,000 subscribers or not. The people of Buchanan and sur rounding country are requested to meet at the court house in Buchanan next Monday night to take some action towards building a. new school house. Notice is given in this issne that a bill will be introduted in the next legislature for the regulation of com pensation to Tax Receiver, Tax Col lector, and Treasurer of Haralson county. ' Rev. Mr. Duffy, of Alabama, preached some intcresting sermons ir Buchanan Saturday and Sunday to large congregations. He will preach here again on the fifth Sun day in this month. Mr. G. M. Ro}tmrts, Mr. R. E. Loveless and family, and Misses Ola and Mattie Atkinson, left for Atlanta yesterday to attend ‘%.ast Days of Pompeii.” The Misses Atkinson will remain in Atlanta for some time. Col. M. J. Head, in passing our office Wednesday, presented nus with a very large, ripe, luscions peach, On asking how maiiy trees he had, he said about halfyn dozen. Now, instead of half & dozen trees, if he had half a dozen acres of this fine fruit, don’t you see that he counld ship them and clear several hundred dollars. 4 y " If ever there was a time when our people should stand united on any enterprise calenlated to advance the interests of Buchanan, that time is now. Let us stand as one man on all projects in augurated for the benefit of the whole people. Lest Tuesday evening at the Loveless House the young people had one of the most pleasant gather ings ever given in Buchanan. Col. Edwards tendered them the use of his law office, where dancing was indulged in to the delight of many. There were many graceful dancers present, and Mr. D. Reid furnish ed the music. Mr. Wagner did the calling to perfection, and every thing went harmoniously, to the tdelight of all present. - Mm, Will Davenport has been quite sick, but is now improving. - We joined the excursionists to Crawfish Springs last Saturday, but we went on through to Chatta nooga, and on our return stopped at the prosperous cities of Rome and Cedartown. The scenery on this route is grand indeed, the lofty monntains and fertile valleys pre sent a picture too sublime for de scription. lowever, the pleasure of the excursionists was somewhat marred by the rowdy conduct of a few men on board the train who were drinking. On returning two men named Woods and Kelley, both of whom lived near Felton, had a ‘hand to hand fight. | Growrn or A B Book.—When Web ster’s Unabridged was first published in one volume, it wag a comparatiyely small book.
