Peaches have been rather scarce of late. Mr. T. P. Moore spent last Sun day in Bremen. Miss Florence Young visited Felton last week. Haralson saperior court ‘convenes next Monday. Don’t forget to sew a good pateh of turnips. The threshers are now making their annual rounds. There are a great many fine cows about -Buchanan., - Dr. Wiltamson and Col. Harris, of Rome, were here yesterday. Bob Young is now running the lightning business. Col. Felix Cobb, of Carrollton, was here on Wednesday. ~ Judge Davenport has perhaps the finest peach orchard in the county. Tallapoosa is in a squabble ever the purchase of a fire engine. Mr. Will Davenport is quite sick from a relapse of measles. Buchanan continues to improve in the way of new buildings. Felton is one of the most pro gressive towns in North Georgia. The Masons had a full meeting aft Buclmnan last Saturday night. Mr. J. P. Gaddy has been visit ing relatives in Carroll county this week. The court house is being put in order by our worthy ordinary ior the assemb ling of court. Judge Davenport has arranged nice offices in the court house for the Solicitor Greneral and clerk. There was a big crowd at Fel ton last Saturday, and it was a well behaved crowd. Since Mr. G. M. Roberts has moved into McCalman’s new store, his goods make a handsome display. Our popular sheriff is having two ad ditional rooms put to the jail, to be used ay a kitechen and dining room. Judge Thomas W. Milner, of the Cher okee circuit, will preside over the incom ’ving session of Haralson Superior court. | Saturday of mnext week is the time for the soldiers’ reunion and big barbecue at Carrollten. . Mr. H. D. Lassetter has a very fine gchool at Felton., Miss Lizzie Anthony has gone to assist him. Messrs. T. J. Loveless and W. A. McCalman took a trip to Car voll this week. We have seen a large number of young colts in Haralson county. This is right, and bespeaks better times. Why send to Kentucky and Tennessee and pay fancy prices for mules and horses, while we can raise them here at home for almost nothing. i The baseball fever has about subsided in Buchauan. It has re tired to the corn field and cotton patch. The mineral springs at Waco are equal to any in the state, muH properly utilized would be worth thousands of dollars to this coun ty. Robinson returned Wednesday from a trip to Ala bama, where he has been visiting relatives and resting uwp prepara tory for court. Trade is necessarily dull at this season of the year. The farmers are very busy with their crops. The prospect is good crops will be made, aud this ensures good trade. The Tallapoosa Brass Band has been reorganized. Professor H. G. O’Shields, of Piedmont, Ala., has been engaged as leader and instruetor.—Tallapoosa Journal. Haralson seil is especially adapted to the growth of grapes. Will the Standard editors please inform us when the grant was made? Prof. J. T. Stephenson, who has had charge of the school at Waco this year, spent several days in Buchanan last week. He Ileft Sunday for Talbotton. Prof. Ste phenson is a teacher of long expe rience, and we wish him success wherever his lot may be cast. Messrs. John S. Edwards and J. R. Grifiith, who have been at tending the Shenandoah Normal school at Harrisonburg, Va., have returned home. Mr. Edwards has accepted a school at Union Hill, and will commence feaching next Monday. We predict a bright future for both of these young men. This week we have the nimble flea.— Next week we will have the lawyer. The exercises were very interesting in deed. An address of 'welcome was delivered by Mr. Gardner Golden, after which Rev. A. G. Upshur de livered an appropriate address. The song service was especially beautiful. Dinner was spread in abundance, of the best the land #ffords. The day was well spent, and will be long remembered with pleasure by all present. Dy, Samumerville is still very sick with typhoid fever. See the new railroad schedule in this papet, which took effect last Sunday. Dr. Gus Lee has associated himself with Mr. J. M. Thomasson in the mer cantile line, . Don’t forget that Rev, Van A, Brewster will preach in Buchanan Sunday. NOTICE. The annual meeting of the Har alson County Sunday School Asso ciation will be held at Waco, Ga., on Wednesday before the 3rd Sun day in August next. President, as there has not been any delegates elected from our county torepresent our association at the district meeting to be held at Carrollton about the Ist of Aun gust, we think that should be at tended to at once by you making the appeintments. If the plan meets the approbation of the president and executive committee, the appoints ments might be made through the BANNER, so all might know of their duty and can act accordingly.
