The discovery mnear Tailapoosa
last week of a human. foot in a
boot, dragged about by a dog,
created great excitement. Upon
investigation, it was found to be
a part of the body of an old gen
tleman by the name of Hunt, re
cently from Chicago, who had
‘been on a visit to his son at Tal
lapoosa. He had disappeared mys
teriously, and all ingniries made
Dy his son as to his whereabouts
was of no avail.. He was dement
ed, and wandered off in the
woods, where he died, and his
body was torn to pieces by the
hogs. It was indeed omne of the
saddest occurrences that ever hap
pened in the county. A porion of
his remains were found not very
far from the publie road.
One feature of the growing city
of Carrollton is the tendency to
conform to the custom of older
cities in adopting specialties in
‘tmde. There can be no doubt
that the merchant who applies
‘himself to the study of a single
line of goeds will sooner master
the business in that line, and will
be better able to keep posted as to
best markets and the wants of his
customers than the same merchant
could if he handled a dozen lines.
Among the firms which confine
their business to a special line of
trade in Carrollton is that of Arm
strong & Beall, who deal in fur
niture. Their business is under
the management of Mrs John B.
Beall, well known to many of our
readers as the some-time editor of
the Carroll County Times. His
success is attested by the fact that
in less than a year he has, by close
study of the business in his spec
ial line, and by careful attention
to the wants of his customers,
built up a trade extending into
Alabama on the west, and across
the Chattahoochee on the South.
Mr. Beall says he is now ambitious
to cross the G. P. R. and is confi
dent of doing so if buyers who
are convenient to the C. R. C. will
visit his store and investigate.
