THE EXPOSITION, ‘ b " The great Piedmont exposition has come and gone, and how many people in Georgia went to Atlanta to see it. It is a fact that Haralson did not get the first prize on its coun ty exhibit, but it made a grand display that has attracted the at tention of people from all parts of the United States, This is saying a great deal, but nevertheless it is true, and it will not be long until you will see the results of our ex hibit at the exposition, | With Haralson’s fine exhibit we captured 17 prizes. We re ceived the largest variety of prizes of any county on exhibition. Mr. J. F. Aldrigde, showed up with the best bushel of corn in the Piedmont region. Our land is suitable for almost any kind of vegetables, and can be raised here to better advantage than in the Northern states. The prize on the best bushel of corn is worth more to us, than any other agricultural prize that we could have procured. The gquestion arises why is this; it is because when Eastern or North ern people come South, they want to find the best corn country. They know nothing about raising cot ton. Corn and wheat are their main crops. When it is ascer tained at the North and West that our agricultural resources can be developed to the extent of their’s, it will then only be a question of time until we will have one of the foremost agricultural counties in the South. Haralson does not boast of superior agricultural ad vantages at this time, but she does boast of the time in the near fu ture when she will show up with any county in the Piedmont re giomn. Our manufacturers are also com ing into notice. Messrs. H. D. Hutcheson & Sons, of Tallapoosa, took the first premium on their one horse wagon. This is a grand send off to this thriving firm. Tal lapoosa, and the whole county should be proud of such a wagon factory as would turn out the best one horse wagon in the Piedmont region. We are informed that this firm can’t keep up with its orders, owing to the rush of busi ness. | Messrs, Dodd & Co., of Talla poosa, captured the first prize on their brick and fire clay. This is a grand send off to Haralson’s dirt. Why should the manufact urers of Atlanta and elsewhere, ghip their clay from one hun dred to five hundred miles, when it is known that we have the finest clay that was put on exhibition. The Mountain City Glass Works, of Tallapoosa, received first prize on its raw material, including gand, white sand, quartz, and sil ica. This is a credit to Haralson county, and the day is not far dis tant, when you will see the glori ous results of this splendid exhib it at the exposition. We could mention a number of smaller prizes, but space forbids. We will say in conclusion, let ... s every citizen feel proud that he is a citizen of such a grand county, and that when one part of the county is benefited, that we all share in its glory. New Jersey elected a democrat ic governor by 7,000 majorit;, The democrats carried New York by about 22,000. ’ In Ohio the democrats made a strong fight, and up to this writ ing the reports are that Campbell, democratic candidate for govern or, was elected by about 8,000 plurality. J In Towa the democrats elected ’their governor by Fom 7,000 to 10,000, This is a grand democratic ral ly, and is a strong pull for the Presidential campaign of 1892. Let the good work go on. B Epoch. The transition from long, ling ering and painful sickness to ro bust health marks an epoch in the life of the individual. Such a re markable event is treasured in the memory and the agency whereby the good health has been attained is gratefully blessed.
